So I've been lurking and posting occasionally on here for about a year, but have never formally introduced myself. I'm 24 and live in western NY, I bought my first two family house 2 years ago and have been fairly successful with it. I've loved corvettes since I was 5(never left home without my c3 matchbox car) So last year I decided I needed to own one. In may I bought my 01 torch red convertible. The guy I got it from just bought it from a used car dealer and didn't know much about it. He thought it was stock, turns out it has a vortex air ram intake and a cat back exhaust, which isn't stamped and i haven't figured out what kind it is yet. But when I got it home I popped the hood and found something I didn't notice when I test drove it. This...
It says "not all corvettes are red but this one sure is! David Hill, NCM 2003" Being an enthusiast I knew who David Hill was. But is it common for vettes to have this signature. Its obviously been signed a few years after the car was built.
This picture was taken in the spring above Canandaigua Lake.
No it is not a common thing, but it happens at special Corvette events, Corvette Corrals at ALMS races and trips to the NCM. What that is referring to is the statement made by John Heinricy when at a meeting the color for the one millionth Corvettes was being discussed. It went on for some time and John simply said "All Corvette's are Red the rest are mistakes"
There is a book written in that name and it is a must read for all Corvette enthusiasts, epically C5 owners.

you can find the book even though it is long out of print on amazon and sometimes a member here will part with their copy (i haven't figured out why they would, yet, lol) along with the mclean book, it is definitely "required" reading if you love corvettes.
I just ordered the book on Amazon. I didn't know the rest of that story. Thank you. I've thought about ordering another stock hood just so this one stays preserved. Would it be something that adds value down the line? the car has 103k on it right now.
