Ok, I'm a newer vet owner. Have had my little darlin 3-4 months now, think I'm in touch with the hole owner thing right. Just for grins I see if the key I use everyday to ignite this rocket fits the door lock, nope. It is an ignition key only, this happen to anyone but me? Guess I'm in search of a valet key or a BFH. ARGH

Sounds like a previous owner has either changed the ignition switch or the door lock. Valet keys don't come with the C5. I would be curious about what has occured there.
never trust anyone when it's your money ... check all the stuff before paying ... like heater/AC, windows , door locks & keys, hood & trunk latch, stereo, CD, fader Mag Locks, E brake, interior lights, everything
not an expensive fix ... if you think it's worth it.
be happy that's all you found wrong, compare the cost of that fix compared to the original cost of the car, your WAY ahead !
(the glass is 1/2 full vs 1/2 empty ... )
these cars are so much better than almost anything, and be glad you got a good one
I've had my Vette for 2 years, and I've never used the key to unlock the door,so I really don't know if it does it or not.
Should probably check that sometime....
Doesn't really matter, though,I've got 2 fobs, and they both work,so as long as the key starts it,I'm good ...
Kind of a pain to use a key to unlock the doors, anyway:
I would just change the cylinder in the door (way less expensive than the IG switch disassembly labor), should be able to get a cylinder keyed for a specific key at a full service locksmith.
Ya, your all right. Not a disaster, just another day in the life of a Vett owner. Not sure of letting a lock smith touch my car though. Never found anyone that would be as cautious as I am. Some of the hacks that call themselves pro's, custom shops, etc. Any DIY threads? I have no problem getting the cylinder made, but installed NO WAY NO HOW.
you can do it. these cars are not that tough to work on.I have had mine for 18 months and would have never dreamed of doing the things I've done or plan on doing. Don't let OCD
(obsessive corvette disorder) get the best of you
Reminds me of a story with my old girl friend she calls me really upset saying she cant get into her car so when I get there she quite upset she said her unlocky thing had quit working so I asked if she had tried the key she looked at me confused so I grab her keys and unlock her car she was like I had no clue that the key could open the door
