Need some help... my driver side window goes down only half way at a time. After a short while it will travel down a little further and then (after a little) travel all the way down. The up motion acts in similar fashion. I wanted to check with you folks before purchasing anything (window regulator). I had problems with the passenger side a little while go but it was easy to diagnose- a broken cable. i'm guessing the the regulator motor is on its way out but wanted to check first.

thx

Mine was acting that way before I had to replace the regulator... twice. If the "fonzie" method has stopped working and the window is getting stuck halfway, that's a pretty good indicator that the regulator needs to be replaced.

I can't give any input on your symptoms as they were different than mine.

If you do a couple of searches you will come up with quite a few recommendations for general troubleshooting but there is no definitive guide, at least that I found. I am not sure if you can feel fraying of the cables in the sheaths if frayed cables are sticking on you but you might pass your thumb/forefinger over each sheath to see if you can detect fraying. I am not sure where it would fray, but I would pay close attention to any areas with a radius.

If you decide to replace the regulator/motor assy I have a new unit that I only energized for 1 or 2 cycles. When I confirmed that it was not my problem I took it off and put the existing back on. I will sell it to you at a decent discount to "brand new" pricing. I purchased it from one of the couple of vendors that is mentioned on the forum.

I just realized that my location does not show in my info area. I am in So Cal.

Have you checked the wiring behind the flexible duct between the door and body? Have you checked all of your grounds.

There is a sticky at the top of Tech/Performance on these issues.
