Default QUIET Exhaust

How much power will the stock mufflers choke with a 400+ ci motor with LT headers and x pipe/cats.
Without sacrificing any performance gain what do you guys think is the quietest aftermarket muffler?
I can't believe I'm asking this. I must be getting old.

Why go with an aftermarket exhaust if you are seeking quiet....just keep the stock mufflers. I don't think they are that restrictive power wise.

Another very quiet system is the Corsa Touring.

Wow! This is the first time I've ever seen any question simuliar to this on CF - most guys are trying to louden up our cars, stock it already quiet as is.

Sorry, don't have an useful advise for you here - but actually I'm kind of dumbfounded (even got the blank look on my face).

Ummm... Good Luck!

I'm with you, I kept stock because I like quiet exhaust. I did put a set of Corsa Hot Tips on it for looks though.

Never put side exhausts on my 1964 either, didn't like them that loud when I was 18 years old!

There is always the Z06 ti. It is quiet in normal driving and has a little bark when you romp on it.

I'm with you there. Why call unwanted attention.

From what I have gathered, the catback is not especially restrictive.

i have route 66 on my 04 6 speed convert and it's pretty tame also. in fact right after i installed them my wife and i took a ride somewhere and she remarked how quiet she thought the car was. she figured if i was changing out the system it would have the same bit of growl her hemi magnum has with the custom california exhaust system on it. i believe that mid america motorsports has a whole section of sound bites on the various exhausts they sell. it might give you a better idea of what's out there.

Go with the stock Z06 TI's, they weigh about 25 lbs less and sound great at WOT and you can usually get a pair for $400.00

I must disagree. The OP says he has LT Headers and "X" pipe with cats...

I have the same set up with Corsa Touring, and they are anything but quiet. Nice and throaty under normal driving, and definitly noticable.
And they flat scream at WOT!! They may be quieter than other aftermarket exhausts but noticably louder than stock.

I completely agree. I have the Corsa Touring with H/C, AR Headers, X-pipe. I wouldn't call it quiet by any means. WOT flat out scares women and children.

To answer the OP's original question. A friends C5ZO6 w/427ci has TI's and cutouts. Pre LS7 head swap, cutouts open= 500rwhp, cutouts closed thru the TI= 475rwhp. Post LS7 head swap, Cutouts open= 572rwhp, cutouts closed thru TI= 540rwhp. The stock axleback is going to get restrictive with 400+ci making any kind of power. If you want to keep it quiet and don't mind giving up some power, go with a TI. Hope this helps.

Best response so far. Thanks for actually reading my post.
I swear I read some of these responses and wonder if these people even read before posting.

So yeah 408 stroker, LT's, X pipe, high flow cats, and Borla = Freaking LOUD.
My wife hates it, scares the daughter, and pisses off the neighbors.
I have the stock TI Z06 exhaust and I'm thinking of putting those back on but I don't want to loose the HP so I'm looking for a quiet aftermarket muffler that will let me keep the HP but loose SOME of the noise. I realize it will always be loud but hopefully tone it down a bit.

I have the lg big 3 catback and on my 450 rwhp c5z it is quite a bit quieter than my ti's were. You can barely hear it on the freeway. Plus it gives you a true 3 inch exh

Another vote for Z06 Ti. I had LTs and Borla stingers on my 98 and it was loud all the time regardless of speed. Now I have LTs and the stock Ti on my Z06 and I'm loving it. Its pretty docile at idle and cruising yet still howls when you stomp the loud peddle.

A friend of mine has Dynatech longtubes, high-flows, and Corsa Touring...now I'd think, how loud would a touring be?

well,,,When he revved it, I swear it was as loud (or louder ) than my B&B Bullets (stock manifolds, cats)...sounded like a European F1 car
