Default Lowering Question

For all those who have removed the front bolts what have you put as a buffer between the spring and the control arm so that the spring will not rub directly on the control arm?

I've seen some people use pieces of a rubber door mat that you can get at walmart...that should do the trick.

I guess just the thin one would work or would I need to get some heavy stuff?

Thin piece of rubber, about the same size as the bushing. Once in place, make a couple of wraps over the rubber & spring with duct tape.

If your like me, you wont be driving it that way for very long. Way too rough of a ride.

Well I still havent decided on whether or not Im going to do it yet and plus Im only 19 so I may be willing to deal with it more although it is my daily driver.
I just really like the look when the front bolts are removed.
I guess if I were to get some really thick rubber it would help with the ride some, I just think its too high the way it is right now.

If I were you, I'd try lowering it as much as possible w/o removing the stock bolts. I done this a few weeks ago, and after settling and all, my fender gap is about an inch higher than my tires up front and maybe 1 1/2" on the back.

Best of all, it is simple to do....takes about 15 minutes all-around, and makes a world of difference on looks. As you already know, the lower you go, the more your ride will stiffen. I compromised and left the bolts in there, but went as low as I could. Ride is definetly rougher, but still bearable.

Then again, if this doesn't work for you....you can always remove the bolts. If you do this, I would find a bad tire and cut the bushing from the sidewall or something. This would be a little thicker than a rubber piece from wal-mart as mentioned before.

Good luck getting that vette down to the ground - oh yeah, you'll probably shortly after be researching fat mamma's or fat daddy's when your front bumper (brackets) start scraping. That's next on my to-do list, I'm tired of hearing the dreaded scrape!

You can try bottoming out the adjusters, you can then try cutting the bushings on the bolts, and then there are aftermarket bolts that basically have no bushing. The final step is no bolt at all, but that is fairly extreme, IMO.

I have already lowered it as far as it will go and I think its still to high, maybe Ill try cutting the bushings and see how that looks but I think I am gong to want it lower and until I can afford coil overs this is what I am going to have to do.
I like the tire idea a lot better than a thin floor mat from walmart as it doesn't seem like it would hold up, and it just so happen I have an old tire/rim combo sitting around from where I got hit head on this past summer....

Sweet picture and thats about as low as I want to go and the ride should be better with stock wheels due to the increased sidewall.
BTW I have a friend who was < the width of a penny from the ground at his air dam, he had to park around the corner from his apartment.

thank you, yes you will have a little better ride. i think i might want to go to 18's and 19's for a better ride but still low.

haha thats too low for sure. i had the air damns on at one time but i took them off. i like the look better with them off. i still only run at 200* in 110* summer heat. but the car is also tuned to run cooler. GLW lowering of your car. be sure to post pics when it is finished

I put a teflon pad there. Thought about rubber ,but figured it would bind up and rip. If you put a thick piece in there then you might as well leave the bolts and just cut the bushings. the teflon works really good. haven't seen any wear and no squeaks.

Well what I was thinking is the thin piece would not hold up very well and that the thicker piece would and even if you put a 1/4 inch thick piece of rubber in there it would compress some therefore being less than that of the bolts.
Plus in my theory the thicker piece would absorb some of the shock and make it not such a harsh ride. Just a theory but I like it.
