Default My Modified Exhaust Setup

I know a lot of guys swap their exhausts for cat-backs/axle-backs and are after gaining louder tone and increased flow at a high cost though. Bullets, Corsa, Borla are all nice exhaust setups but IMO cost a fortune and give back minimal gains HP-wise.

What I was really after was the stainless steel double-walled tips from all these systems. I like the quad tips and the style I like I've seen referred to as Pro-series tips, & Tigershark tips - so what I done was purchased a pair of C6 take-off exhaust tips for $49 from fleabay and had the muffler shop chop my old tips and weld these in-place. Of course they had to make four extensions, probably about 1 1/2" - 2" long for each tip and I was particularly picky about how low they hung, how far they stuck out, and how much gap each tip had spaced between each other.

The muffler shop was real patient w/ me and I stood by their side and told them to go up/down, in/out, etc., and I think they done a swell job (only took about 6 1/2 hrs on/off work (they were swamped)!

Anywho, here's a before/after pics... Let me know what you guys think. Personally I didn't dislike the stock tips, they were nice to begin with....but I can't say I'm not grinning w/ my new rear look!

BEFORE:

AFTER:

The C6 tips have a built-in resonator and much to my surprise they actually did tone-up the sound of my exhaust somewhat - nothing major, but a little more bark than stock. So far I'm happy and overall this mod only set me back $145.00

I think I liked the original ones better, for some reason those look really small and out of place. But glad you like them!

I will most likely replace these bushing which will bring the overall height of the tips higher (at least 1/2"). Should I be concerned at all w/ exhaust heat closer to the bumper area?

As for the size, they are actually the same diameter as the stock oval tips, but the others fill-in a bit more since they are wider (oval). Though it may not be a better look, it's definetly different than stock and I don't think it looks worse. I actually like the double-walled tip look and the tone is a definite plus!

I did the exact same thing over 3 years ago when my stock tips had some rust(!). Believe me, they look fantastic under the C5. Nice job!

The "before" pic is deceiving. I had to look twice before I realized those were the stock tips because they don't look oval in that picture. I like what you did though

I liked the "BEFORE" better, but who cares what we think, it's your car.

I'd have to agree with others that've said your before pic doesn't look like stock tips to me; larger, and round compared to stock C5. However, I really like the style of the newer C6 tips, but they do look smaller.

My stock tips weren't the SS style tip, rather these were the oval "hot tips" (I believe they were called). I'll post a pic of another angle to shot the oval-ness.

The C6 tips actually measure the same as my 'before' tips, but not in width. I did replace the muffler hanger bushing and raised the tips up some. The inner tips now measure 1 1/2" from the bottom of the rear facia to the top of the tip. That should be enough distance that heat should not be a factor.

The new tips look good, but IMO they are too low - should be closer to the bottom of the fascia.

Anyone care to guess what it would cost to have a set of the C6 tips welded to my C5 Z06 Ti exhaust?
