Before I purchase a new shifter I was wondering what all has to go into installing them. Iv'e got my eye on a c6z one also a MGM. Before I buy I was just wondering how deep I have to get into it.
shouldn't be a tough install for you. I had a C6 shifter in my last C5Z and it was nice. I am getting ready to install an MGW..which will be super nice!
In C5 Tech, use search or search this forum (in the red banner) with keywords "installing a c6 z06 shifter". You should find multiple threads, many with detailed narrative and images.
It's the same basic procedure no matter which shifter you decide to use.
DriftaVette, have no worries it is a pretty straightforward process. You shouldn't have any difficulties if you take your time and follow the proper procedure. Search the Tech Forum for 'c6 shifter' and 'Patches'. Patches is a forum member and was one of the first, if not the first, to install the C6Z shifter in his C5. He does a step by step with tons of pics to help you out. I ran into a small snag when one of the torx bolts stripped on me. Got a replacement and everything else went fine. Utilizing the 'locking pin' on the front of the new and old shifters is the key to a successful install IMHO. If you don't lock the shifters before doing the swap you can really create a mess for yourself.
Good luck!!
I put a New C6 shifter from GM Parts Warehouse in my C5 Z06... couldn't believe how easy it was after reviewing Bill Curlee's posts with pictures. Highly recommend upgrade.
I just installed an RSD Snap Shifter in my c5z and i am in love with it. Then i put a c6 shift **** from GS Creations and i love it. Easy, short throws. Simple installation. What more do you want
As everyone has stated, a simple search (PATCHES has a nice write-up) and about an hour (that includes taking your time) and you will be done. Just take your time and it will go just fine. Update your profile with your location and you may even find others in your area willing to help out. If you are in Hawaii, I'd be more than happy to help out.
