Well it is now 500 miles since the dealer installed the '02 piston ring update to stop the oil burning. I checked the dipstick today for the first time and found the level as full as the day I got the car back from the shop. :D :D :D We all know how **** poor the C5 dipsticks are but I would have to say not a drop has been burned in 500 miles. :D :D :D I will report back again at 1000 miles but it certainly appears my '01 is fixed. The re-ring was done with the engine block left in the car. Engine sounds good and runs good. :chevy
The dealer gave me no instructions. I took it easy for 20-30 miles and then proceeded to drive with spirit. Full throttle is good but I would limit tach to 5000 rpm or so for a couple hundred miles or so to be safe. Do some WOT in low gear and then compression brake a few times over the first couple hundred miles. The replacement rings supposedly don't need breaking-in since their design is for fixing these cars and not for full engine overhaul with cylinder boring and honing.
