I completely agree with your post even if you forgot the point, lol. If I don't hit exactly 500HP I won't be disappointed. Seems to me I want to do the Vararam intake, long tube headers, x-pipe, full exhaust, and maybe some gears, 4,10's maybe? and perhaps a cam upgrade. How much would ported heads cost?
Welcome to the forum noob
You're on the right track. Headers, vararam will go a long way toward your 11 seccond slip. Gears are tricky. I have 4.10s and I know several Z owners with 4.10s They are a great gear for the drag strip and crazy fun on the street. Some think that with the Z06 transmission gearing 4.10s are too much. They likely don't drag race their cars often
I am well aware of the MOD bug. I actually dropped 10k on my 07 Si Civic...LOL at 300whp it's respectable but a stock zo6 will beat it in the 1/4. haha it will be my daily driver/autocross car once I get the Z.
$10K for 300whp?
i spent the same amount on my S2000. Went with a big turbo setup and got 512whp. Are the K's in the Si's week or something??
For a manual transmission, 12-13% power loss through the drive train is more accurate. Run on a Dynojet I made 411 rwhp, which at a 12% is appx 56 hp loss, which puts my crank hp at appx 467.
Using the logic of 15% loss I would be making appx 485 crank hp which I dont think I am with only a cam, headers, CAI & a tune.
Okay, but then how come people are saying the LS6 is underrated from the factory at 405hp? If our cars are putting down 355-360rwhp yes at a 12% drivetrain loss that equates to 405hp, but most say that these cars have around 420-425bhp stock which is about 15% drivetrain loss...Not trying to cause a fight i think its great if these cars can only lose 12% through the drivetrain i was just always told that 15% for manual non mid engine cars is about right...

The Ls6 was never a 420/425bhp when stock. Never. The LS6 in both 385bhp and 405bp forms have been extremely consistant in their "street numberS" on well managed DynoJuet dynos over the years.
This is how the 12% figure has been settled on, based on feedback and observations and comparisons of 1000's of C5's dynoed by 1000's of owners at hundreds of shops over the years. This has also held true for the C6 platform.
All these "my car is under rated' stories are just BS bench racing nonsense from folks who want a cool story to tell their uncle that never shuts up about the COPO Camaro he let go for $2000 in 1972 and just sold at Barrett-Jackson for $1 million...

So true, Manual tranny N/A C5's and C6's have been pretty well documented tested and established at around 12% drivetrain loss over the last decade plus. No mystery, all the arguing that still seems to pop up every few days about this is rediculous.
I dont want to appear to be a "rivet counter", but the LS7's are not "under rated" and are SAE certified to be within a certain %age of their 505bhp number.
Almost universally, corrected C6 Z07 presented LS7's are dynoing around 440rwhp numbers. As a bench-racing number 12% drivetrain loss is probably a better bet - the 15% number simply means people get to have higher BHP bragging numbers.
Just saying hehe
The 12 percent drivetrain loss you mention is about exactly in line with my pre-tune dyno number on my 2002 Z06 ( stock engine, cam & manifold). It dynoed RWHP at about 358HP ( badged at 405 HP). After the tune , it put down 374 RWHP.
What do you think the addition of LT Headers and a tune will yield in RWHP ?
