My car had the dreaded steering column lock. It is a 2001 manual. I took the car to the dealership to have the recall done on it. It has never had any work done to it. The dealer called me today to say that they will replace the wiring harness however the anti theft module is not covered under the recall. I'm a little confused since i took my 99 corvette also manual about a year ago and had no problems with them. They kept on telling me that the NEW GM will not pay for the anti theft module under the recall. I wanted to get some facts. I wanted to know if the two parts are related or are they just blowing steam. I want to know if you can replace the wiring harness and just bypass the anti theft module to get the car running. I might tell them to just fix the wiring harness and leave the anti theft module alone. Can you please advise.
I would be standing at the Dealer when they open tomorrow and GET YOUR CAR OUT OF THERE! All you need is a CLB from Corvettes of Houston. The Dealer will program in the "Pull the Key, Wait 10 Seconds, Say a Prayer" fuel shut off.. Don't let them touch your car!

BUY AND INSTALL THE CLB!
A column lock bypass (CLB) can be bought from places like Corvettes of Houston or Thunder Racing and install is easy. If your column is locked at the moment you will need to get it unlocked before you install the CLB.
Can you unlock the column without having to buy the anti theft module. The dealer has told me that they need to replace the anti theft module to unlock the steering module.
The dealer is correct, about 3 years ago Chevy/GM sent out a letter notifying all that recall reimbursement for this issue would be ending.
The first thing to check is your battery. The video will enlighten you. If you want some insurance then go the route of the Bypass (CLB) module. Easy to install.
