Default A different approach to puddle lights

I know that most people use flexible strips for their puddle lights, but I tried something a little different.

Last year in a frenzy of LED purchasing I bought these two high powered arrays from Autolumination. I was thinking of using them for my footwells but did something else instead. So I was thinking about how to use them, since they are high powered and kind of cool. I noticed that the grommet on the bottom of the doors had an indentation that was about the same size as the LED fixture, so I took out one of the inserts and the LED fit great.

Here it is laying in the grommet...

I just made a small slit in the grommet and ran the leads through to the inside of the door and wired it through to the footwell lights in the usual manner...

I'm one for keeping the car stock -- HOWEVER, small mods like this that are functional are okay by me. Plus this mod is pretty much invisible but serves a purpose.....unlike the fake scoops, rear brake ducts, etc.

I'm giving this one 2 thumbs up!!

Dang $20 a pop for those guys!!! What size did you get? They have the 31,36,39 and 44mm ones.

edit I see that's for the adapters. I think I can fit a 22mm in their. I'm looking at the ones on ebay they are 5 bucks each shipped and have 12 led's on them

I'm with you. I like to do custom things that could pass for OEM if the designers had thought about, or if they decided to drop a feature in design review.

When I bought them, there were'nt multiple sizes I don't think. As for price they aren't cheap, but well made with aluminum body and they are very bright.

What a great ad-on. How do you hold them in the gromet? Did you use glue or something ?
