Default Dirty White Lettering on Interior Components

I asked this same question over in the Car Care section but only had one response, I guess everyone checks here more often.

Anyway, the white lettering on my interior components looks dirty and yellow. How can I make these letters white again?

It is a 2001 so after ten years I can see why they might discolor but I still don't like it.

You talking about the dash and radio lettering?

Yes, and the turn signal stalk (sp?) and pretty much all the *****, buttons and dials.

It isn't real bad but they have kind of a yellow dirty look.

Have you tried wiping it with a damp cloth?

Be careful. My 00' Silverado turn signal stalk was getting dirty as you mentioned so I used one of those Meguiars interior wipes and the lettering started to come off I noticed the Vette's turn signal stalk was starting to get dirty too but haven't been brave enough to try anything.

Be VERY carefull what cleaners you try using. The letter will come right off with the wrong cleaner.

I'd recommend starting with warm water. If that does not work, add a very small amount of mild dish soap.

Start with a test area before going crazy with anything.

I wonder why yours yellowed. Mine on my 02 look new.

May want to use a Q-tip too. Very light rubbing with it.

Not sure why mine are yellowish. Could be smoke, not from me or the previous owner but I am the third owner, that is what it looks like though. The previous owner was not "Mr Clean", I have the entire car all shiny now but it wasn't a month ago.

Thanks for the tips, especially the ones that say to be careful. I wasn't aware the paint came off so easy.
