I know I have read about people running different brand tires on the fronts and the rears. Is there any huge disadvantage to doing this? 4 tires engineered to work together does seem like the best choice. I wonder if there would be any advantage to say running nitto invos on the rear and toyo T1rs on the front.

Many people have been running different tires front and rear. It's not a big deal as long as you stick with reasonably similar tires (ie: not snow tires on the front and drag slicks in the back). Many high powered cars run drag radials in the rear full-time in fact. Not really a big deal. Be aware that many tires look quite different (even just from the sidewall view) and that can look odd if that's a concern.

I do because I don't want to run drag radials on all 4.
I usually go through 5-6 sets of rears before I have to replace the fronts.

Kuhmo's upfront, and Michelin's in the rear. No problems after 3 1/2 years of doing that. -shrug-

The only time I plan to run different tires front and rear is when I get some Drag Radials.
