Well, needed to run into town Sunday morning to get something so I went right about nine. Thats a great time to go as all the church folks are at home getting ready or on their way. I go to Lowes first and they didnt have what I needed, so went to Wal-Mart. They didnt have it either. Got home and finished what i was doing and then had to go down to a friends house. When I walked out of the garage, there it was. The front bumper on the drivers side was scuffed up and the front part (about 2 inches in width) of the drivers side headlight cover was broken off. No idea what store it happened at, so wont place blame. What makes me so mad about it is that I go there that early, no matter what car I am in cause no one is up and about yet. Parking lots were practically empty and I didnt park by anyone.
Found the cover online at Gene's for 160 i think, including shipping. Have a shop to do the paint, trustworthy shop. Friend of mine works there, and he will likely be the person to buff it out. Hopefully the bumper will come out good with just a buff.
I would check with the secuity office at each of the stores, you might find a security camera that caught the accident if you tell them the approx time. If you file a hit and run report the local police might help find a video of the other driver. I would want to see them get caught and pay!
"If a driver collides with an unattended vehicle or other stationary property, most states mandate that he or she make a reasonable effort to identify the property owner and alert them as to what happened by, for example:"
*Taking down the vehicle's license number if a parked car is damaged, or
*Leaving a written notice at the scene (with the driver's identifying information) if other property is damaged.

I agree that following up wtih the stores security office might drum up a video, however and this is from experience, the police won't get involved or even make a report since it occured on private property, and there wasn't a witness and the security office won't release or let you see the tape without some sort of court ordered release, and without knowing what store it happened at this may be hard to do.
This same occurrance happened to my wife at a wal-mart. I literally washed her car before she left to go to the store, so I know the car was fine before hand, and she went directly there and nowhere else. When she came out of the store her bumper had been hit pretty hard. obviuosly the person across the aisle had backed into her while she was in the store. After calling the police and dealing with the security office, we found out the hard way that if this happens to you, you are just SOL.
Condolences and sympathy!! Seems there is an endless supply of brain dead butt heads out there,,and it's just luck of the draw whether or not you get it!! Good luck on the fix!!
If it's not too late try to get an Individual Accident Report Form from local police. Fill it out thoroughly. Take pictures. Ask police if they will check for video cams at places you stopped. It can't hurt and you might get lucky. I used same technique years ago to catch a H&R driver days after it happened. Huge lot, no cameras but I waited till shift change at approximate time accident occured and questioned people as they came to their cars near where victim had been parked. I got lucky and the perp admitted she had hit the other car. Her insurance fixed the other vehicle. It could happen.

Check with your local police department and see if they have what may be called a "counter report" traffic collision. This is a form that you would fill out, it creates a law enforcement document but the report does not go anywhere, it does not go on your record either. But in the event you do find the vehicle, you will have a copy of a police report. CA has it, hopefully your state will too. You fill it out, give it to them and they provide you with a copy. Thats it!

Had it happen to me while I was at the pistol range. Lucky for the offending individual he was long gone seeing I had a colt commander in my possession at the time.
