Default Oil filter search

I did a oil filter search, and found some good information. But it did raise more questions. My owners manual says 6.5 quarts. not 5.5 quarts. It also says to use filter PF-44 which has been superseded by PF-46. Sure looks like a small filter to me. What filter did our cars come with from the factory? Can you rely on the computer saying you have (85%) left. All the cars I have owned in the past, I changed the oil and filter at 3000 miles. I will probably only put 3000 miles in a year on the vette. This is the first corvette that I have owned, so I need advice.

Thanks in advance..

I have been relying on the oil life monitor and at my last change I waited until it read 2% remaining.

I have been using the NAPA GOLD filters. I started out with using the A/C Delco one that we can buy at WalMart.

I found a good K&N fliter at Auto Zone, probably have it other places too, that has a 1" nut on the bottom for easy on/off with a box wrench which makes like better while under the beast!

You can trust your oil life indicator, Evil Twin has posted many things about this but it is always a good idea to change it once a year.

Sort of off-topic, but what does 365 days have to do with anything? Why not 400 days or 15 months or 10 months for that matter?, is it just an easy time to remember?

Well I dont think that once it hits 365 days that the oil is going to go bad all of a sudden its more of a gradual thing of where the detergents and everything else in the oil starts to break down and needs to be replaced.

After reading more information via search, it seems that most people do not know how much their LS1 engine uses. My owners manual says it takes 6.5 quarts to fill the engine and filter. When I change the oil, I will check to see how much I remove.
Thanks again for all your help. I have owned our C5 for exactly two days now, and looking forward to many happy miles on the road.

Yes you should fill up with about 6.25 quarts due to the fact that you are not ever going to get all of it out and it is better to have a little less than too much oil. One other thing is that the dipsticks are apparently not 100% accurate so you will need to fill it up with the ~6.5 quarts and see where it is on the dipstick.

Default Oil & filters and changing it.

My 2003 owners manual says every 7K unless you don't drive in severe conditions. I only rack up about 2 or 3 thousand miles a year. So I have the oil and filter changed every August along with the state inspection. Here in PA you don't have to have the emissions test done unless you exceed 5K a year. But the owners manual is your corvette's bible. I use 6.5 quarts of Mobil-1 and I've started using a Mobil-1 oil filter. Most oil filters on the market today are all made by one company, Champion Labs Inc. You can't go wrong with the oil percentage gauge. Many, many of the folks here drive their cars hard and the % gauge is always right on the money for them.

Yea I can tell when I push my car hard during the course of the week because the percentage of oil life left will go down 2 or 3 percent compared to staying the same or just 1 percent.
BTW I am around 5000 miles on this oil change right now and looks almost as clean as when I put it in and I still have 47% left on it. Oh and I have over 99k on it now

Thanks again for all your inputs. I am very happy with the car. I am going to do some research on the STS Turbo Kit for our LS1 engines.
