Default Nitrous Questions

Just doing a little research and have a few questions, I never have wanted to play with nitrous due to hearing of nitrous backfires, and that it can overall wear on the car as far as rings etc. I was checkin some stuff out and saw this ZEX safe shot kit used to give like a 35hp gain from some nitrous which looks like its pretty safe, i do not even think you need a crazy tune to run this kit, its only like $350 bucks has anyone considered this kit and be able to upgrade if need be or if you get more into nitrous? I would be a beginner with nitrous so im not trying to get a huge kit/setup. Also is anyone running nitrous on our cars and having no issues with use? Any input is greatly appreciated, here is a link to the ZEX Safe shot kit

Nitrous is reasonably safe if you are smart about it. I wouldn't even bother with anything under a 75HP shot on a LS-based engine. Up to a 100HP shot, you wouldn't have to get it tuned, but that is always an option. I ran a 100shot on my heads/cam LS1 and then a 150shot on my 382 CI LS1. Only problem I had was pushing a head-gasket, which was probably my fault for triggering it too low in the RPM range once accidentally.

I used a TNT wet kit and everything was pretty straight-forward.

So with the standard ZEX EFI dry kit for LSx cars i could run a 75 shot with a window activation switch safely with no tune?

Yes but look at some other kits. Zex kits can be overrated. A 75 zex will not always equal a 75 TNT or other brands. They are kinda nitrous lite. Go to C5 FI/Nitrous section lots of good reading.

Yep. Just make sure you run a nitrous-friendly plug (I like TR6s), your fuel-system is healthy and have everything installed correctly.

My 125 shot on my H/C Z only yielded 97rwhp and 105lbs tq on a shot. I rejetted to to 150 and a nitrous outlet plate, but do not have any dyno #'s. Kits like the TNT mentioned are really good kits. I am happy with my Zex kit tho, but I hardly use it. I do have purge, WOT switch, window switch, etc. for safety and it has worked fine.

Check out the FI section, there are some nitrous gurus in there.

You need to pull 2-3 degrees of timing for every 50HP of Nitrous as a rule of thumb. You should really tune it by reading the plugs.

Go here for good Nitrous advice.
