Default vararam question

I just bought a vr-b2 from maryland i am in the middle of installing and noticed that i did not get spacers for the ram ducts then noticed the latches are not the rubber t handle type they are the all metal snape type is this a vr-b2 or the vr-b1 the directions say vr-b2 and show rubber t handle type so why are mine the metal ones thought i read on here that the metal ones unsnap i expect when buying something new to be getting the latest design changes if not should be stating that
please help

Thanks
Steve

I have had two VRs and one had metal clips and the other had rubber. No worries with that. The shroud does go in. When you are installing the screws on the front, move the brake cooling ducts out of the way and you will find a nice opening for your 1/4 ratchet to fit!

The first time installing it was a bit of a PITA, but take your time and enjoy it.

Not sure if you got the HALLTECH HONEYCOMB or a screened MAF, so be prepared for codes, unless you get it tuned. I did not tune mine, but I did do the RELEARN, which you can find on the forum with a simple search.

This is a GREAT intake, just do your best to be patient and if you can get a HONEYCOMB from HALLTECH, it is worth the $40!

Steve,

Mine has the rubber and the right side always comes undone. I purchased the sysytem about 2 years ago as the VRB-2. I would think the metal would be the better set up. My Z is all stock except for the Varram. No tune and no codes.

Good Luck, Bill

I just put lg pros, high flow cats and 3'' x pipe on my stock 04 z 2 weeks ago put a about 100miles on it with no codes and had a ton of low end torque 1 and 2 gears broke loose at will, now this morning she ran well with no codes but the torque drop was noticable still torquie but not as much will i get the torque back after a tune or when the car relearns???
car did have a bit of lag to it in 6th gear on the freeway at about 60-65 miles per hour and 1600-1800 rpm im sure its the computer having to relearn just happy i have not thrown any codes with my mods. so far and the car will be getting a tune this spring just hope i dont lose the torque

Thanks

Steve,

To be honest, when I purchased my Z it had a Blackwing air intake on it. I did notice a difference as far as response. The Z felt more responsive with the Blackwing. If I didn't sell the Blackwing I would probably switch back.

Steve,

The HONEYCOMB regulates the turbulant air and smooths it out as it crosses over the MAF sensors. It really made a big difference and prevented me from having to pay for a tune...which you shouldn't need to add a CAI.

The Honeycomb does make a difference. My Z had a vararam on it when I bought it. It had lots of lean codes which didn't seem to go away after a couple of trips to the shop. I read about the honeycomb on the forum, ordered it, and ind installed it. NO MORE CODES!!!

how can a tune get rid of lean codes? you're getting lean codes because the air going through the MAF is turbulent, so it's getting confused and getting odd readings. what tuning can remedy a confused maf reading turbulent reading?

I can get a free tune from a friend, just gotta pay for dyno (70 bux)

should I get the honeycomb, or have him try to get the lean code tuned out on the dyno?

I haven't gotten the thing yet, so I don't even know if I'll get any lean codes

DO NOT use the honeycomb is you are going with a SC. It'll create too much suction, and suck the honeycomb right into your MAF.
