Well, dang it, I just put the car under wraps for the winter. I opened the hood, got out and locked the car with the fob, and proceeded to unhook the battery. Bear in mind, I've never winterized the car before, and so now I'm wondering...will the key unlock the door with no battery? Surely it will, but makes me wonder, and I don't want to uncover it to be sure.
Yes, the key will unlock the door. When you re-connect the battery next spring, you'll have to re-program the FOBs though. My '00 coupe is going into storage this week too. Can't wait for spring already!
Now days, there is not much good about California, but one thing is the weather. We have very mild winters, and drive all year round. We have been having rain for the last three days, but come Tuesday, the Vette comes out and the fun resumes.

It's good to know I'm not the only one who has done that.
Mechanical unlock no problem - and if you turn the key twice it'll unlock both doors - key fob will need a re-synch once battery is re-installed
Thanks,Matt
That's why I asked the question...I know turning the key twice will open both doors and trunk if you turn it three times, but surely the battery needs to be hooked up for that!
