Last year I managed to tear the cartilage in my left knee getting into the Vette. I put my right foot in as usual and pivoted on my left foot thereby twisting my knee. It has taken almost a year to heal. My specialist said to be careful because at my age it is much easier to do than when I was younger.
Well, guess what? I just manage to do the same thing to my right knee! I had been getting in and out very carefully since the first injury, but forgot all that in my rush to try out my new four post lift a couple of weeks ago. Now I'll be limping around for almost another year! Talk about stupid!
Any body else in the same boat?
Just finished having my second (left) knee replaced. Not Corvette related, but I am really careful when getting in and out. I now have no reason to dump the Corvette.
So far I have not hurt myself getting in/out of the vette. I use the bump in the door sill (about haft way up) to help myself in and out. I call it the "old man bump". I try not to twist. I also disabled that steering wheel feature so that I have the steering wheel in the same place on exit re-entry. Hope you heal soon.
Sorry to hear about your injury. Stranger things have happened. When I was around 25, I pulled my lower back bending over the wrong way to pick up a pencil at my desk at work.
I have my Vette parked close to the wall in my garage to help avoid any accidental dings and I've noticed that I sort of twist to get in it so I might need to switch things around as I get older. I've twisted my knee before and I could see how getting into/out of a Vette in tight quarters could do that!
I see you have a vert,,,just put the top down,,hold on to the top of the windshield frame and step in and lower yourself down!!Since mine is a hard top,,not an option!! I just sit down and then bring the legs in,,not always real graceful,,but gets the job done!!Good luck on the recovery,,here's to many more happy vette miles and smiles!!
It's a good thing you don't have a C4. I told my wife I will get rid of it when I can no longer get in and out of it. C5's are much easier to get in and out of.
I'm carrying a ruptured cruciate ligament in my right knee. As long as I'm very careful the knee is ok but 2 or 3 months on crutches if and when I have an operation just isn't worth it as I really couldn't face not being able to drive my Vette.
I ruptured the ligament in a nightclub after someone fell into me, not that I was drunk :o
Sounds like you need to learn a new way of getting in and out of your Vette. I put my rear into the seat then lift my feet up and swing them in. No problem.

That is the way I have been getting in, however, I just forgot to do it in the excitement of trying out my new lift for the first time. I had set up a mirror so I could see the tires in relation to the ramp and had my mind on that instead.
Thanks for the good thoughts, folks!
Looks like I'm the only one who has done that, so far. I won't let it keep me out of the Vette, though. All you seniors take a lesson from my mistake! Don't let it happen to you.

Had to get rid of my C4 for the same reason. Couldn't get in and out of it without a struggle. Love my '04 Comm Ed vert. What a difference.

I hope it's not something where you need any surgery. I had my left legs all shot up while I was in the service and have a replacement left ankle. but I had a problem right knee with a broken knee cap, and I had to have surgery to have the broken half removed, and brother that hurt more than the whole left ankle problem. I had a cast on for 7 months, ( do you know what smells like when they took it off?) But that knee was more painful and difficult to get up and walking again. Good luck, we're not as flexable as when we were younger.
Praying for complete recovery for you injured fellows so you can continue to enjoy your cars. I've only had my vette since May and I have twisted my left knee repeatedly getting in and out till I, too, discovered I could brace my left on arm on door sill and push myself out of the car with my arm thereby reducing the need to have to twist my knees. Hoping my luck holds and yours gets better.
