Be aware: the Auto Trader Scammers are in full-swing!! Saw an ad for a 09 Z06 for only $ 34,800... phone # was bad.. sent an email.. got this reply 2 days later: (do NOT ever send info under these circ's!)
Hello Chris,
The car is still for sale. The asking price is $34,800. It is located in Ramona, CA and the VIN is 1G1YZ25E695110536. The car is registered on my name and the title is clear (no lien). It is in great condition, no dents or scratches. It was always garaged and the regular maintenance was done in time. It wasn't involved in any accident and has never suffered any kind of damage. Also this is a non-smoker car. I've attached photos and the carfax report. If you have any questions regarding the car just let me know!
I had a buyer offering $36,500 and I've lost about 2 weeks waiting for him to pay just to find out in the end that his loan wasn't approved. I've lowered the price because I'm in desperate need of cash it's either the car or the house so if you don't need a loan you can have it.
I'm currently signed up for a protection program offered by Google Checkout and I would like to close the deal through them. If you are not aware of this program you should know that it will allow you to test drive and inspect the car before paying me. You will have a 7-day inspection period to decide whether you want to keep the car or not before they release the funds to me.
If you are still interested and have cash just send me your Google id (www.GoogleCheckout.com) and I'll ask them to fill you in with the transaction details.
I don't want to offend you, but the car is priced for a fast sale so please if you intend to apply for a loan or financing do not reply to this message!
Look forward hearing from you.

If you go to Google Checkout his bogus link wants all your Bank or Credit Card info... Again: Be advised!!
Its really sad how far these people will go... last week, I got a call to my house from someone with very broken English telling me I won a Mercedes Benz and 2 Million dollars. All I had to do was pay the taxes up front to a Federal Marshal. I'm pretty sure the call came from overseas.
I just find it hard to believe people fall for this crap. But evidently they do, or the scammers would not keep trying.
I always think about this guy when I read about scams. He was able to turn the tables on the scammer. I don't know how legit this is, but it is a good read and sounds plausible.
Disclaimer: I'm not saying the add is legit on not, but....
The Google Checkout site is legit. It's Google's version of PayPal. You can find it on the google.com homepage under the more link. The seller has offered to let the prospective buyer look at and test drive the vehicle beforeheand. Good opportunity to check the paper work. It's the one way to be sure he is true to his word. If the Google Checkout bothers you, ask if you can use PayPal instead or ask if he will accept cash straight-up. Ramona isn't that far from Camp Pendleton.
Anyway, just sayin'.

Yes--Google does have a legit checkout... but, if you look closely, Google's site is "checkoutgoogle", not "googlecheckout"... His web site is a phony!
the saddest thing is that every day someone falls for these scams. the news and the papers are full of stories like this, maybe not an 09 C6Z, but still scams just the same.
