It seems that every C5 I see that has had a front bumper cover replaced has issues with the headlights rubbing. Having been in the market for a nice, used car it's nice to be able to eyeball a car and (beyond just paint match issues) see an easy indicator that the car has been in a wreck... but this got me wondering.
Can any of the body guys out there tell me WHY this is such a common mistake for C5 repairs? I'm in auto claims so I get how difficult paint matching/aligning panels can be, but you'd think people (body-shops and consumers) would notice this more. Is the C5 front fascia just incredibly difficult to position correctly, or is it the lights?
Thanks in advance for the insight--just a curious guy with too much time on his hands
Because all of the pannels are screwed in. Plus your inner fenders are held in by glue. Not only that, your head-light covers can be aligned/moved, so if the screws in the head light covers get loose, the head light covers will move around a bit.

Ah, thanks Just curious. I didn't realize that the headlight covers were adjustable, but I suppose that makes sense. The gapping on some of these cars (used, wrecked) is just atrocious! I don't see how someone could not see it... but I guess I'm a car guy.
