Default TSP LT headers?

I read a lot on here about people spending 1200-1800 bucks on headers, and these are only 730. I've had TSP exhaust products on other cars in the past and the quality was good.

Wondering what could have been done by TSP to have headers with X pipe so much cheaper than everyone else (other than the lack of SS, which isn't important to me anyway).

Anyone try them on their Z06?

I see there is no air tube flanges if your car is a stock street car thats going to be an issue.

That only means the EGR needs to be removed, right?

Here's what their site says...

So, we're talking an extra 20 minutes of work and inability to pass emissions inspection then?

I dont know what will happen but you may need a tune dont know if that will make your car throw codes or cause problems just by removing the EGR also my 04z has 4 o2 sensors 2 before the cats and 2 after i thought all years have 4 if so you will have to tune 2 out for sure,or add bungs to the xpipe. this is just my opinion and i dont know anything about these headers but if something is cheaper than the others there is usually a reason again JMO, Im sure some other guys on here can answer this better than myself

Good luck

many people run these and they like them. the main difference is that they are a mild steel instead of stainless. stainless seems to be the "in" and "best quality" material (which makes the demand go down for the mild steel) and people who can afford Z06s usually save or spend to get the best for their cars. almost all of the aftermarket exhaust cat-backs are stainless. (personally, i dont care that the exhaust will outlast the life of my car!) companies have to lower the profit margin on low-demand products to sell them. i dont think TSP has a lot of R&D dollars tied up in these, either. that may be why they only offer them in the non-emission version.

that being said, once you add ceramic coating to the mild steel, i think it is just as good a product or even better than an uncoated stainless header since the coating keeps the heat inside the tube. heat = velocity so this keeps the exhaust gas speed up as it exits which is where the power increase comes from; getting the exhaust out faster than the stock exhaust. and the coating keeps the heat from being absorbed by the car. all plusses for the coated headers.

a minus is that eventually, the coating will wear or be stripped off by the road debris and the steel will rust over time. it took around six years to develop small dots of rust on my last pair. still very usable, though. and stainless tarnishes, so....

back on track, TSP makes a great product and i was in the process of purchasing this exact set when i found a used set for sale at a price too good to pass. as for the flanges, you simply remove the air pump (just search for how-to's; very easy to do) and turn it off in the computer as well as the rear O2 sensors.

I ran them on my Z06. They worked just fine. Put down 435rwhp with them and a cam.

I have them and love them. I paid $300 SLIGHTLY used and there might be a 1 hp difference between someone who spent $1300 for a new different set.

great timing on this thread as I am hoping to get some headers over the winter too. great info so far. I see the XSPower headers are SS so what are everyone's thoughts on the comparison of the two products? not looking to bash either, just an opinion of which might be better. both producst are very close in price so it seems logical to compare them.

Plenty of F-body guys run the TSP headers with great results. I went with Kooks as they came very highly recommended, but have no doubt the TSPs will be a quality product.

Thanks for the write up. I actually bought them a couple days ago, and I should get them tomorrow. I'm going to install them and send the PCM in to get the sensors and crap tuned out.
