Just wanted to post up real quick to say that I've made the switch to gatorbacks.
After replacing both the AC tensioner and pulley, AC idler pulley, main tensioner and idler pulley, water pump and balancer.
The car has 130K..(water pump leaked, balancer had a slight wobble and the idler/tensioner pulleys I just felt it was time).
Even after all that and a swap from the stock Daycos to Gates the dang thing still had a chirp at any rpm above about 1500 it was annoying as heck.
All the parts houses in my town no longer carry or are able to order Goodyear belts. I found a pair on ebay.
Pulled the main belt off real quick to isolate the chirp.
Replaced the main belt with the goodyear and bingo! NO MORE CHIRP
I can't tell you how happy just this tiny little thing makes me...it was seriously more rewarding than finishing the torque tube bushing/bearing R&R on my back in the driveway. Just due to the fact that it's been an issue for quite awhile and was instantly gone. No noise from idle-6500 but motor now.
nice donny...gatorbacks are where its at. hey what made you do the R&R on your torque tube?
Just the mileage on the car and a very slight vibration in the drive line at highway speeds.
The old ones had some cracks in them so I guess it was time. I did the bearings also just cause I don't want to do that job again without a lift, air and a really good pair of snap ring pliers.
hmmm...i should have gotten that done as well...how much did it run you to replace it all?
I did everything except for the pressing on/off of the BEARINGS (not bushings) in my driveway with a buddy. I found the bushings on ebatmus and the bearings on ebay..ended up running about 100 bucks for everything and like another 75 to have the bearings pressed off/on.
The chevy dealer said it couldn't be done, that I'd have to replace the whole tube as an assembly and it would be a little less than 2 grand.
It's a job but if you have access to a lift and a high lift transmission jack..good pair of snap ring pliers also it makes it a lot easier.
