Anyone work or ever work at the assembly plant? Just wondered what that is like? I would think putting Corvettes together would be a pretty cool job...at least better than assembling some other makes and models...
...or at the end of the day is it just any other job?
(By the way, I'm in the process of working on a career change hence the off the wall question)
I also watch the TV show and you could see the great pride those employees put into building the corvettes. I was impressed and look forward to touring the factory in July 2011.
They had over 1,000 employees about three years ago. They where building over 35,000 cars. Now they are down to about 450, and last year they built a little over 12,000 cars.
Wow! I knew sales were down but didn't realize the numbers. I guess it would be the grass is greener but still looks like it could be fun. I had tickets for a tour last year then they shut down for some re-tooling so hopefully can get there maybe next year?
If anyone has toured the BMW factory in SC its pretty cool too and they are expanding so the tour could get even better I suppose?

When I visited the assembly line I felt the same way. But heck I'm sure there are other engineering jobs there as well. But I'm in agreement, I'd much rather be working on Corvettes than HPC/storage.
(Being union, I presume they have a good set of benefits should you retire.)
We met many of the workers during a long tour awhile back. All we met were very friendly, informative, and helpful. I am sure they get a lot of visitors and millions of questions over the years.

Saw the same thing when I toured the plant in September. Lots of happy workers. If they look happy then it's probably a good place to work.
