Question: Per the owners manual (2004, pages 5-73 and 5-74) there are points located on the front and the rear suspension for lifting the car. Why does everyone lift on the frame rails? I used the locations on the front suspension to get at the drain plug and then lowered the car while the oil drained out. I had the tire shop use these 4 lift points to raise the car when I had new tires put on. Or am I not reading the manual correctly.

You need to NEVER lift your car near the rocker panels. The jacking points require pucks to lift the car safely! Do a search, there is ton's of advice on this subject.
Yes there is and they all talk about using pucks at the points where the body panels wrap around the frame. You put them in the cut out areas so that you lift on the frame and not on the body panels.
The lift points described in the manual are way inside the under body on the cast aluminum supension members. I see no need for pucks at these locations.
Mr. Bill,
If I read the grid chart correctly I think I'm talking about locations number 1. These are what is depicted in my owners manual. Why not use these locations and not mess with pucks?

I myself use the #1 also, I have never lifted my car from the side, I don't even own a set of pucks.

It's difficult to reach the front preferred location, even with a low profile jack (and if your car is lowered I'm guessing you can completely forget about it). If you have pucks, you can reach the optional locations with any old regular jack.

never an issue for my low profile jack to get under the front.
I could probably do a search on this but then noone could post and tell me to.
Is there a video anywhere that shows exactly how lifting should be done? Seems like I see this type of question all the time. Maybe if someone could point to a video of proper technique it might be of additional help.
I have a 4 post above ground lift, my car has not been lowered, before trying to lift the car will my arms clear or will I need to use a jack for sufficent clearance ?
This is a great pic. Now I can show my wife why landscaping could be a bad thing. If they didn't have the blocks you may have been ok. Sorry about your car.
I have the full length aluminum frame rails and use those to jack. Never had a problem.

I use jacking pucks and lift from the side for the fronts simply because my floor jack won't go under the front of the car and reach the lifting point there. For the back, it works just fine lifting in the preferred locations.
I have a above ground lift , which is two post , with the 4 swing arms do I need lift pucks ? or can I just use the rubber pads on the lift arms and raise it on the 4 lift points in the diagram ? , Someone has done the same thing , I just don't want to damage the car .
