Default Predator tune dissappointing

Installed new Predator today. Install was quick and painless, but....I took my 03 A4 for a drive and at normal driving speeds I noticed no difference at all. Spirited driving revealed slightly firmer shifting. The "seat of the pants" performance gains advertised were non existant. I didn't go with Chuck CoW last weekend in Orlando because I have more mods coming (cai etc,) I for one believe the Diablosport Predator tune is not worth the money. "Just a heads up"

i would advise against handheld tuners if you're looking for a strong noticeable performance difference. they're pretty generic and mild to be able to apply to various light modifications and driving conditions as well as minimizing the company's liability on engine/trans damage.

get at least a custom mail-order tune, but what would be better is a live-scan/street or dyno tune. they're tailored to your specific modifications and can get the most out of your car

Sorry it didn't work out for you but once you get the other mods on the car, take advantage of a tune by a good shop or by COW.

Bummer - have you talked with PREDATOR?

See what they recommend as to what might of went wrong - that set-up has a pretty decent range to play with!

Perhaps take it out and turn it back to stock and see if you notice a difference let us know!

Man when I did my HYPERTECH in my '98 A4 it made a pretty good difference all around and even the Dyno proved it worked

Thanks,Matt

From some one who has been there. I would wait get the mods you want then get a true custom tune. These hand held tuners are good if you have a good idea about tuning and know their limitations and know that your not going to get "off the seat performance"

Oh come on now!!! I was THERE for god's sake and my *** WAS COLD---And you missed me!

Here's the deal! If you got my tune, or my tune and the AUTOCAL from me

THEN YOUR RE-TUNES ARE FREE!

No need to wait for a tune till you finish the mods...

Sell that thing and get MY Christmas deal and you WILL NOT BELIEVE MY C5 TUNE... NO COMPARISON.

I'm in Florida several times a year... Even when you get my mail or autocal tune...

You are still entitled to the TOTALLY FREE IN PERSON WIDEBAND TUNE.

SERIOUSLY though, my C5 tune will blow your mind compared to what you bought.

In the meantime there's a guy who you'll find over in scan & tune who can help you with your predator.

Did you make any adjustments to the tune?

What tune did you actually install?

Its very rare to see someone with an A4 say that they did not notice a big difference....did you not notice the cars willingness to light up the tires now?
It doesn't roast the tires going into second, as opposed to the stock chirp?

Be sure that you installed a performance tune, as opposed to the factory HP tune.
May also be a good idea to export a copy of the last tune written and the backup file and send them to me, I have a feeling the car may have already been tuned

Anyone have a reason as to why this thread had to be posted in 2 places?

Chuck, why did you ask him to move it here?

Just so you guys are aware, Trinity will be available for the C5s soon, and not only does it have remote custom tuning capabilities, and datalogging, it has 2 external inputs for logging a Wideband or any 0-5V device.
Its tough to remote tune without WB data!

I'm happy with the results with my Pred on my 02Z.

The canned 93 perf tune gave me a little extra SOP results...plus I was able to get my LTFT's in line, adjust CAGS out,COT off and fans adjusted to suite my needs here in the south.

With any product, expectations and results vary.

As always,IMO.

I did not notice much of a performance gain, but appriciated that I could adjust for the the new gear ratio and the fans. Worth it to me......for the time being till I finish mods and go for a "real" tune.

My Predator does what I need it to until I do the heads and cam. So far the handheld gave me a bit of seat of the pants joy, adjusted fans for the lower temp stat, got rid of the cags nag, adjusted my ltft's, and after the long tubes it handily took care of the rear O2's. For what I paid it has done what I've needed.

We recently did some work with Snow Performance to enable the serial outputs to control their Meth kits. Should just be a matter of time before we start workoing with some widebands.

I have considerable dyno tuning experience, both engine and chassis. There is no comparing a custom dyno tune to any mail order tune, Custom tune is simply better (assuming a GOOD tuner). That being said you can get pretty close with a good mail order tune if, you give accurate mod information and the supplier has a good database. I prefer EFI Live and HP tuners, but this is just because I am familiar with them and appreciate their capabilities. That being said I have used the Predator and find it very good, very robust and not as limited as some other hand helds. I think it's a good product. Op, are there any mods on you car? If so Predator can provide you with a tune to match your mods (if memory serves correctly).

Jack.
