hello everyone. i have a question about a 2001 vette im kinda lookin at. its has pretty high miles and was wondering if its ok or i should stay away. the miles are almost 187,000 and there asking $14,100 for it. its a auto coupe with glass top, looks like new tires and looks almost like a new car inside and out. i kinda stumbled on this car at a dealership i was lookin at a 2001 mustang cobra they had. any suggestions or pointers are appreciated. thanks
well i figured the price was kinda high but is that just to many miles for this kinda car?
For that amount of mileage, I would think the price should be closer to 10k, like the other guys said, you can pick one up with a lot fewer miles for that price.

yea kbb said something like 11k for a dealership which is where its at. and i figure i could get them to come down alot (havent talked to them yet) but this is my thinking. i know the car has alot of miles but without know who owned it and how it was driven im thinking that a car with say 75000 miles could possible be more wore out than this one with high miles if this one was driven faily easily right. the carfacts show the first owner had it till like 130000 miles and put that on in the first couple of years and the driver seat shows very little wear like maybe mostly interstate long drive miles maybe. i mean the seat in the 01 cobra with 75000 miles looks 3 times more worn then this vette. Just my thinkin tho.

Man, that is way too high for a car with those miles. Keep looking - there are a lot of C5s out there with a lot less miles on them for that kind of money or maybe a bit more.
I have over 150,000 on mine and doesn't have any obvious problems. I just put it on the dyno the other day and it's putting 313 to the road. I just bought it a few months ago and gave a lot less than 14 for it.
so if it runs good would 10 or 11 be ok. im going to ask but im sure i already know, is parts expensive for these cars and what would be the most probable problem ill have with this car

I would say, if you like it a lot and you have 10 or 11 to give for it, go for it. It's all about what you have and what you want.
Offer them $8k.. If they take it, then you will have a few $$ to fix it. If not, keep looking. Like everyone said, there are a lot of Vette's out there with less miles and for less $$. Im sure you would pay just a bit more for a car to have 100k less miles.. I know I would..
O1's in my area are about $16k with 50k miles..
So I think the point from the crew here you are missing is...can you get a well maintained reliable Corvette with 187000 that is like new in appearance (remember parts wear out)...yes. But why do it? Why not pay $4000 more and get a car with 80k miles. In 80k miles your $14k car will be worth the $10-11k you are considering for this one. What do you think a Corvette is worth when you put 80k on 187000 and now it is almost 270000 miles? Without the car being a classic your 270k mileage vette will be worth parts and not much more and the parts with that mileage really might be mainly worthless too.
Pay more and put your own 187000 miles of driving on it! You'll get a ton of enjoyment out of it. Good luck

At 175,000 miles the oil pump on my 01 quit and I wound up replacing the motor. Dealer said they had to pull the engine to change the oil pump. Cost to R&R the engine was nearly $3000.00. Parts were extra. Starter crapped at 215,000 miles. Repair bill was $1400.00 including tow charge of $150.00. IMHO I would buy something with a lot fewer miles. Parts fail enough due to age without heaping on the miles. 01's have a lot of expensive quirks even without the high mileage additive. YMMV, and my opinion is just that, an opinion. You are the expert on your wallet, skills and desires.

thats 187,000 miles on that auto trans i would stay away from it. im sure your into man. trans or else you wouldnt be looking at that 2001 cobra which is a 5speed. for about 14k you can get a real nice 75-80k c5 that is well kept. i suggest you keep looking
