Humming sound under engine load?
Have a strange problem here that I'll attempt to describe for you folks. A little background: I have a 99 C5, Magnuson supercharger, headers, Spec twin-disc clutch...
I am hearing this distinct humming sound when the engine is under load. I don't hear it when accelerating through lower gears, though. I mainly hear it at speed - say, 40MPH or faster when I'm lightly stepping on the gas. It's a VERY pronounced humming on the highway at speeds of around 70MPH and in 6th gear (when the engine is under the most load). I don't have to be accelerating very fast at all. In fact, just lightly tapping the accelerator at those speeds will produce the humming.
If I press in the clutch, the humming immediately goes away. If I let off the accelerator, again, the humming goes away.
What worries me here is I experienced a similar problem a couple years ago and it turned out the supercharger needed to be re-built (again). If this turns out to be the Magnuson again, I'm done with them. I shouldn't have to send the unit back 3 different times in order to keep it working. I don't even drive the car THAT hard, either.
Just wanted to see if this might be anything else that you can think of. I need to find a shop here in Tucson who can take a look at this. I don't want to have to drive up to Phoenix if I can avoid it.
Thanks.
