Default Dead Vette!

Well after a weekend of pampering my Vette it paid me back this morning by being completely dead!

As of 6PM last night all was well. This morning I went out and the doors would not open and I realized that the car was completely unresponsive, dead. No power at all.

I used the key to pop the rear lid and get the doors open. No lights, gauges, nothing. Hit ignition and nothing happens. I decide that it must be a completely dead battery somehow so I attempt to jump start using wifes car. Nothing! With cables connected I get no juice flowing through the car.

Really strange. Car was fine yesterday evening when I used it last. No signs of any trouble. What I did see was an increadible amount of corrosion ont eh Positive battery terminal that was not there just a couple of weeks ago.

perhaps the positive lead is completely corroded internally and won't pass power any longer? Only thing is that it was fine last night so this breakdown was very sudden and total.

I guess it's flatbed time and off to the dealer.

Any thoughts as I prepare for next steps?

Have you tried recharging it with a trickle charger? Rare that the positive terminal has the corrossion. Might be a bad terminal post.

If it does end up at the dealer, make sure they trace the corrossion as it might have burnt through the floorboard fuses/electronics center. That could be what's causing the power outage.

I would think those battery cables or the battery cable at the starter solenoid is the suspects. The electrical all comes together at the solenoid..alternator, battery, fuse boxes and the solenoid of course.

Sorry to hear about your car.

But, did you mean for this to be in the C6 general and not C5?

Hope it is not your main fuse running from the starter and up. Had to pull the pass/side header off to get to it... But also look at the fuse,s on pass side foot.

I would certainly try subsituting in a good battery before I had my car flatbedded to a dealer. The battery may be shorted internally and a jump won't work.

The battery should be your first suspect. The batteries in these cars will die without any warning, and once they do, they are most likely history.

is it the C6 in your avatar pic? Aren't you supposed to put them in Reverse when you park them to keep the battery from dying? If it's a M6 car

Only the 05 manual transmission. Later years, not a problem.
