IMHO

Your recourse is solely with the warranty company. I don't understand why the dealer or GM is even getting involved unless the warranty company is somehow connected or endorsed ny GM.

This would be the case if you bought the car and warranty from a GM dealer.

From what I recall from your post this car sounds like it was border line salvage to start with and in retrospect I assume you probably got a deal that "was too good to pass up" and the warranty gave you the piece of mind to go ahead with the deal.

Problem is the warranty is only as good as the warranty company and all 3rd party companies are total scammers.

Reading the fine print in the warranty contract you'll see they don't have to use original parts, they can use rebuilt parts etc.

At this point I would write a demand letter to the dealer and the warrantee company for a full refund of the purchase price. Send it certified and basically let them know you will not be satisfied with anything less then your money back.

Give them 10 days to respond then turn it over to your lawyer and walk away.

Yes, there is something missing from the story...

When I spoke to the folks that sold this particular motor to the dealer (originally) they asked if I was aware that other motors had also been installed in this vehicle prior to my purchase...

Of course, none of that (or this) shows up on Carfax or Autocheck

You are definitely on to something. This car may very well have had something similar to a salvage title.

Why would a dealer even bother? Were they hoping an old ostrich would buy the car and just stick his f%*king head in the sand?

I don't know, but all of the advice here is greatly appreciated.

I can't wait til I can post up when the recourse takes place.

As I stated previously, the B.A.R is all over this. I wouldn't expect much of anything till the beginning months of the new year.

It really doesn't matter how many engines were installed prior to the one you got. That's the only one that matters.

Like I said I'd be demanding my $ back.

I would not let them fix it and take it back with the intention of selling it as that just would not be Right unless I fully disclosed everything. Again this is only me talking.

I have to wonder what "they" knew. The people that I deal with directly at the dealership probably did not "know"- but I am sure that there were those who did.
