A few months back a family member bumped into my driver side mirror hard with a ladder; through some serious luck on my part neither the glass or the mirror itself were damaged. However, the mirror glass assembly was knocked almost completely outta the housing. I managed to pop the piece back into place, and set it back to roughly where I thought it should be.
The issue, though, is that since then, the power mirror randomly angles itself either too far up or down or in. I guess it's trying to go to where it thinks it's set to?
I've tried manually adjusting it when the car's both off and on (physically pushing the mirror to where I want it to be) and through the controls (saving it to my driver settings), but it still wants to move from time to time.
There was a post from Bill about the feedback circuit in the mirrors getting dirty and the control never really knows the location of the mirror so they seem to have a mind of their own. I believe he suggested moving the mirror through its full range of movement up - down, side to side several times to clean the contacts. You might try this but depending on how hard it was hit there maybe a bad spot in the feedback and it will never correct. I'm sure if you ohmed out the mirror circuit as it move thru the ranges you could tell if it was damaged. just a thought.....
