since i got my car about a year ago i have tried to find some way to use jack stands the safest way possible and thinking of ways to improve how they seat on the frame. finally after some digging on the internet for the right stand then using an old thread or two on hockey pucks, i think i have found the winner. thought i would share for anyone else who was looking for a similar setup.
as you can see in the last picture as you jack up or let down the car the stand top free floats in its base because of the eyebolts, then when you have it where you want it you insert the safety pin. the eyebolts are screwed to the stand top by slightly grinding 2 sides of the nut, this prevents you from using the top hole stop but you can let it seat in the base for the lowest height. also in the event the jack were to slip the stand top would stop even if not yet safety pinned, by contact with the top of the base (may not totally prevent damage but certainly wouldn't let rotors crash to the ground)
Why? I always put my stands under the frame crossmembers-never an issue.
i did the same thing but didn't like using a 2x4 on top and the stands i had before seemed to be right at the edges of the crossmembers.......just a different way......wasn't claiming to have the only way, just a different one.....guess i got a little overexcited since i have been trying to come up with something for a while.
to each his/her own....we all have corvettes, we all WIN!!
Sometimes you cant use the cross member. Case and point, when I removed my engine the cross member had to be removed. The only place left to use was the body.

That sure is a lot of "zip-ties" on the floor under your car !!!
