I had to unfortunately store a 2000 vet with 11,800 miles outside (covered) for a month in we will say 20 degree temperatures. The battery looks new, some sort of " Titanium" model". Just had this car since September 2010 and always started immediately in warmer weather.
I finally was able to move it to a non heated storage area. Upon my first attempt to start the car didn't turn over. On the second attempt it started and was move a few hundred feet to the totally enclosed storage area. A week later I went back to start the car just to keep the new tires from flat spotting and the car won't start on repeated attempts.
There is not any electricity in the storage area so a "battery minder" is out of the question.
Three years ago I stored a 2005 Crossfire outside for the complete winter and had no problem starting the car on numerous occasions.
I won't be taking the car out of storage until April 2011 and will need to be jump started , a service that the storage area offers.
If you cannot use a battery charger on the car while it's in storage, I would look at buying a deep cycle battery that will "help" the situation but may not solve it completely. An Optima YellowTop is designed for deep cycle situations like this, but it all depends on how long you go without starting it and the outside temp. I guess that would be my suggestion on where to start.
A Corvette in storage is better than no Corvette at all!
I had the same problem, went to start my 2000 vert yesterday, and the battery was dead
haven't used it for 2 or 3 weeks at the most. Purchased new sears die hard early last summer. Stored in garage, unheated and the temperatures have been in the 20's. Had same problem before new battery. I'm thinking something is drawing on the battery, I want to check to see if there is a draw, how many amps should the car be drawing, what is a good reading, i'll keep a charger on it for the rest of the winter anyway
If you are going to leave the Vette for a while and cannot put a trickle charger on it then I would disconnect the battery. Vettes drain batteries when they are not used. Then when you go back to start it the battery should still have a lot of charge left in it. I know the 1936 Packard I bought had not been started or had the battery charged for over a year. The owner got in it, cranked it for a while and it started. It had an Optima in it.
The C5/C6 electrical system draws very minor voltage when static. This sticky should have some pages in on the test for current draw. C5 Gen sticky
Watch this video Parts 1 & 2 Battery-ECL. Make sure you have a battery with a 120 RC (reserve capacity).
If you can't keep it charged, then completely disconnect it. Make sure you have the code for the radio if the radio security system is set so you can unlock it, else all you will lose is the HUD will reset to defaults.

First, thanks to all of you that have responded.
I thought that I read on the forum that there was some concern when the battery was disconnected. Where would I find the code for the radio ( don't have a hud system). My 200 Vett came without the owners manual and I have now given up on the dealer who has promised me one for months and finally ordered a replacement
Here is a link for a PDF copy of the Owners Manual Click
When you shut the car down and remove the key, does the little red LED lamp on the radio face blink? If so, you need the code, if not then it was never programmed.

I don't know from personal experience but was always told by more than one person that a dead battery will freeze and bust if the weather is cold enough. That would be a real mess. Like the guy said take the battery home and get a cheap trickle charger to keep it charged.
