Default How do I relocate rear view mirror?

My rollbar is in the way and I could see much more if I could relocate the rear view mirror down an inch or more. Anybody do this before? I spoke with a windshield installer and he said it's not any easy thing to do. Maybe do it when I install a new windshield? Any experience out there?n Thanks!

Get a hold of Rich @ Abel Chev. in Rio Vista he can help you out I would see if you can purchase the metal piece that holds the mirror on the windshield and get the glue and stick it were you need it and move the mirror down. Leave the old piece thier on the windshield should be that easy I think

I believe the glass is preped in the mount area so the adhesive will bond so moving it to a location without this bond area will not hold. You can see if there is a way to prep the new location or possibly get a longer mirror extension from a different vehicle??

Actually, I think any glass shop could do it very easily.

Not true. I did it a few years ago. Moved the mirror down an inch.

Default Go to a junk yard pop off the mirror and mount and recement

I used to get mirrors at a junk yard by pulling the mirror sharply toward you. Releases the mirror and mount. Occasionally CRACKS THE WINDSHIELD. In a junkyard NP. On your car forget it. Simply recement the new mount wherever you want it.

CAUTION: The NEW WINDSHIELDS now come with a mirror mount in the center of the windshield with a bunch of black dots around the mount. Glass shop said a mount may not stick anywhere on these dots. Also COULD cause failure to pass inspection in many states. A new gimmick they just thought of. Also old mounts had parallel sides while many new ones are larger and tapered. Just to be incompatable.
Just replaced a windshield in a Taurus. Had new mount already installed in the middle of the black dots in the center of the windshield.
Glass shop GLUED the old mount to the new mount and now mirror is in the CORRECT position but 1/8" further from the glass. I wonder if this will fail inspection. Get your micrometers out.
