I don't know what the laws in Texas read, but they are probably substantially different from those in effect in Virginia. If you shoot someone trying to protect personal property, you will end up in jail faster than the guy trying to steal your stuff. Lethal force is usable only in very specific circumstances where your life is in danger.

Yes, because they are already half way in my house, the garage is always locked. I have a wife and 3 small kids to protect and the garage is inside my "home". If the truck outside were broken into, I would hold them until the cops came, but entering a locked home is different to me.
Besides, our boxer would wake me up and silently "warn" me when ever someone arrives. If they got in the garage (next to my bedroom) that is too close for me.
