IMO, a good runflat tire is the Firestone Firehawk. I had a set on my '00 and was very pleased, not only with the wear, but also with the handling, lack of road noise, etc.
I love my Goodyear RF's. They are so hard they will do a burnout for two miles straight LOL... All joking aside the runflats make the car drive/ride like crap. If you want a smooth ride change to a non RF you will fall in love with the car all over again. Michellin makes a good quality tire, they just don't last long if you have a heavy foot. I ran a MT drag radial in the rear for about 4K before they were to slick too drive on. I have a Hoosier DR on it now but it is not going to last but about 2-3k if even that.
I got my car with 11,000 original miles and guy must of drove very nice on them. The of rears lasted 15 thousand and front 20. Not sure how he made them last but once i got them they them ther dissappeared

My car has 46000 miles and they are at 7/32.I assume they are not the originals.
I still have the original Goodyear RF's and I am approaching 32K miles, I bought the car with 999 on it and they have lasted this long, time for new tires though, I'm happy with how much I got out of them...
Well as I said I too am in the market and called Discount Tire Direct yesterday. Initially I called to order a set of Hankooks, but after talking with the guy for a little bit I settled on the Nitto Invo's. Paid $900 for all four shipped (18s front 19s back). I'll let you know how they do for me. I'm expecting to get somewhere in the neighborhood of 10k miles on the rear tires. Anything more than that and I will be pleasantly surprised.
General Exclaim UHP's. $532 for all four from Tire Rack. If you look at the reviews, you will see they even did better than the Michelin Pilot Sports. Good wet and very good dry traction. Much much much much quieter and better traction than any of the run flats.
As far as running non-runflats, get a Safety Seal repair kit and a compressor. Your Tire Pressure monitors will let you know if there are any problems and you can just air them back up and continue on. If you have a major blow out, even run flats won't help you out much.
When was the last time you had a large blow out? Usually it is just a slow leak that the compressor will take care of and you can plug it with the Safety Seal kit when you get home. You can order the Safety Seal kit online or NAPA has them.
Tire Rack is great. I usually have the tires delivered the next day. I do have my own Rim Clamp and Balancer which helps a bunch on getting them mounted when I want.

I have GYRF with 18K. I recently compared them to a set of new ones, and I could barely tell the difference. I don’t do burnouts but I do get on it every once in a while….I wouldn’t be surprised if I get 40k on them. BTW, I hit a bad pot hole at about 30 MPH and got a jolt that almost knocked me out of my seat. I was certain I bent the wheel (factory thin spokes). When I examined the wheel, I’m happy to report no damage. If I had non run flats, I’m betting the wheel would have been bent for sure. Another plus for run flats.
