I believe I replaced my leaking GM filter for about $12
Took my leaking filter to a few auto parts stores. Think the WIX is the exact replacement and much less cost. Make sure you replace BOTH nylon fasteners holding the fuel lines in the filter. One of mine was deteriorated and contributed to the leak.
I sold Wix for many years, phonomenal product. I remember cutting apart Wix filters and comparing to their biggest rivals, Fram in particular. What a difference, needless to say, Ive never used, sold or even recommended a Fram after seeing them both from the inside.

Reason: missed a word
I got one from bennett. it was the cheapest and the best from what I researched here...
now why are the fuel filters diff on these cars? because it has a built in fuel pres regulator or something? and what's with the braided cable? the fuel filter is grounded or something?
Can anyone tell me the whereabouts the fuel filter is located on a C5 Z06, is it an easy replacement or are precautions needed as the fuel is under pressure.
I just installed one on my 01 vert a month ago. I drive every day and even made it to FL from IL (currently on vacation) with no problems - hope I make it back without fuel issue

It is under the car on the driver side, on the side of the driveshaft (torquetube) tunnel, and the bracket is held on by one bolt. Release your gas cap, press the valve on the fuel rail to release pressure (use a rag to soak up fuel that comes out), then you're ready to disconnect the fuel lines. There are three quick disconnects to release. Fuel WILL come out when you separate the connections, so don't be right underneath.
Easy job.

a)
'97-'98 = no internal pressure regulator. Has only two connections.
'99 - mid '03 = internal pressure regulator. Has three connections.
mid '03 - '04 = filter inside tank. Not normal service item.

mine is outside the fuel tank. i have all the space i could use so i might as well do it now
Me mech, who worked at GM dealer for years and now has his own shop refuses to put anything but wix on my cars. if I want something else, then take it somewhere else he says

The vast majority of the time, you can re-use your old retainers as long as you don't damage them when removing. I re-used mine. If the new filter does not come with them, and you want to replace them, most AP stores sell them. Just take your old ones with you to compare if necessary.
Since, judging by your pic, you have the late model version (3 lines), you WILL need to use a removal tool on one of the lines to disconnect it. The other two need no tools.

Installed mine sunday. Would have been easier if I'd done it during the clutch or header installs. Tight space to get both arms up into. The Wix filter is identical the the factory original. Only difference was the part numbers stenciled on. The original was pretty stopped up and drained out some ugly brown liquid. Car really enjoyed the new filter.
