Default Amsoil = awesome

This is mainly message of thanks to Subdriver (and Toque, but I don't want his ego getting any bigger than it probably is already ).

So I read Toques post a while back about changing the tranny and diff. fluid, so I decided to go ahead and do it. My transmission would grind FREQUENTLY (and loudly) from 5 to 6, and occasionally from 1 to 2, and even 4 to 5.... I know. It needs work. It has been rebuilt once by the dealership already (prior to my ownership). I am saving for a built trans and clutch combo, but that's going to take a couple months.

I also noticed that my read diff would whine a little bit at low rpm's.

All that being said, I figured, why not try a fluid change in the meantime. If nothing else, it a little QT with the car. I took it over to my brothers place (who just installed a 2 post lift in his garage) and the fluid change couldn't have taken more than 20 minutes with the car in the air.

I've been driving it for a couple days now and I have to say, the amsoil fluids are really impressive. I know this isn't news to most of you, I just want to share. The oil that came out of my transmission was basically NEW. It barely looked different from the amsiol I put in the car to replace it; however, while my car still grinds 5 to 6, it is nowhere near as loud as it used to be, and the other gears have yet to grind at all.

The rear diff oil was a little worse, but that stuff was probably 62K miles and 7 years old. However, after changing with the new stuff, the rear no longer whines!

In conclusion, the amsoil seems to have been a worthwhile investment for me, and I encourage any of you who are on the fence about their products to give Subdriver a shout!

-John

I love Amsoil, it's all I use if possible.

If changing the diff fluid, still add a bottle of GM posi additive available through the dealer.

Nice info and post! Appreciate it.

As for TOQUE, surprised that guy can get through a doorway with his head so swollen.

I've been using only Amsoil fluids in my car for a litttle over a year now and I have absolutley no complaints! Which fluids did you end up using?

John used these (same fluids I use in my SCCA T1 prepped racecar):
AMSOIL Torque-Drive Synthetic Transmission Fluid (Product Code ATD1G)
AMSOIL Severe Gear Extreme Pressure Synthetic 75w90 (Product Code SVGQT)
(Product Code ADATB)
AMSOIL Hand Pump (Product Code G2039)

P.S. For those interested in trying these, please drop me a PM so I can ensure you get dealer wholesale pricing, about 25% below retail, via the AMSOIL Preferred Customer Program

Yup, just like Subdriver said. I went with his recommendation. Only thing I did differently than Toque was I didn't use the additive with my gear oil. If it becomes an issue, I suppose I can always go back and add some, but no problems thus far

BTW - It's a good thing you're a good sport Toque
