I am planning on replacing the shifter in my C5 soon and looking to see what everyones opinion on aftermarket shifters are. I don't mind aggressive shifters, does anyone offer shifters with adjustable stops?
There are actually numerous threads debating between which shifter is the best; all containing great info. I myself have MGW and would highly recommend it. The notice from stock is significant. The shifts are so much more solid and precise. I will say that it is aggressive and the shifts are noticeably shorter. I would say from what I have heard from many others, it is easily considered one, if not, the best shifter available. 10 thumbs up for MGW.
I like the original stock C5 shifter but wonder if I can cut it off to make it shorter in height.
What is the "bonus" to changing it out for a aftermarket shifter? I don't track or race my cruiser so spending upwards of $220 seems like a waste of money no matter which aftermarket shifter I'd install. Comments and thoughts?
I replaced my stock C5 shifter with an MGW. It's a quality shifter however, just too stiff for my liking. Plus, going from 4th to 5th was pretty tough. I ended up doing the "anti-venom" mod (i.e. shimming out the shift detent), which helped smooth things out a little but I still wasn't happy.
I ended up going with a 2008 C6 Z06 shifter and I love it! It's a shorter throw than the stock C5...very smooth shifts.

I noticed that on the FRC I'm buying. 4th to 5th seemed awkward.
No, and they're not needed. Stops are built in to the design. I've tried 4 different shifters, including a C6Z, and I prefer my MGW. I did keep the C6 ****, however.

I never got use to it. Going from 2nd to 3rd was great however, 4th to 5th was a chore...basically felt that I had to force it over. That inconsistency drove me nuts. I'm not trying to bash the shifter, MGW quality is pretty awesome.

i did the same and there is no comparison. i didn't use a C6 **** however as i preferred to use a custom made "cue ball" type ****.

To answer th OP's question. Hurst has adjustable stops as well as adjustable spring tension for left and right throw. I have mine set up with high spring pressure for 1st and 2nd gates. This makes the 2nd to 3rd shift a breeze when your banging gears. Never missed one yet. Most of the shifters are great. Its just a matter of what feels good to you. I personally like the notchyness and solid feel of the Hurst. I don't want it to be like cutting warm butter.

I dont believe they make the Z06 C6 shifter anymore, it is just the C6 shifter..something to do with rattling, correct me if I am wrong and is this the one you recommend? (I am planning a upgrade and thinking of the C6 that Gene is selling at GM partshouse, or the MGW??? Rob
