Thanks for all the feedback guys! I have been going back and forth on the partition ever since I got the car, searching the forums, searching ebay, and putting one in my cart online a few times, then backing out. The Goodyears are less than 2 years old, according to the code on the side, so they are still good. Car is a daily driver, so I should blow through the tires pretty quickly, and hating your tires is a fun way to drive. I kinda like the dense foam idea, light weight, I haven't seen those anywhere. Where would I find a dense foam one?
I guess if it quieted down the exhaust too much, I'd have to get some long tube headers, I've been thinking of doing that anyway. My other two rides aren't that quiet down the highway either, both diesels, and both riding on AT tires, Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge 2500. But, the car is the only one where my voice goes away after about an hour of driving. I'm a bit of a chatter box, and running down the road, my wife has to listen to me. I bet she regrets the first time she ever asked me, "what are you thinking?"
Here's the same one I got from Ecklers. Its the uncarpeted one for $39. I think It looks fine as is. If you want one carpeted on both sides it will cost $149.
For just $39 this is a cheap way to find out if you like it or not, and it weighs nothing. Could probably carpet it yourself later if you liked it and decided it needed more "fancification."

I respectfully disagree. A partition of normal thickness (3/8"-1/2") but made out of a denser material such as wood is significantly heavier and should be better at blocking sound.
To the OP, I bought my partition from Southern Car Parts. It causes a noticeable decrease in road noise and exhaust sound.
I got my partition from SouthernCarParts as well. I noticed virtually no difference in exhaust noise with my LG Pro Longtubes and B&B Catback. It certainly didn't make it much quieter at all. Funny how that works.
Man, Ctusser, I wish you had posted this a few months ago. I'm on my way to Afghanistan next month but this will definitely be waiting for me in my garage when I get home.

One of the best mods that you can do.....Mine made a major difference, allowing conservation while traveling.....Made it: 1/4" plywood;1" Styrofoam; covered vinyl & carpet and anchor system....
Only somewhat? I just assumed it would quiet it down quite a bit. Anybody ever used a sound meter, and tried before and after? I've got a cheap Radio Shack sound meter, I'm not sure how accurate it is, but it's good enough to check for sound differences. Smooth road = 87 db, rough road = 95 db at 70 mph.
I got one for Christmas and using the sound meter on my smart phone found it decreased from 98db to 95db. I was on the same road with cruise set at 70. I noticed the difference and as stated in an earlier post the radio sounds better.
It was a great gift but I would have built one myself before paying that kind of money for it.
Well, I got my foam partition, installed it, looks pretty good. But, it quieted down the road noise by only 2 db, and took a lot of the hard edge out of the exhaust note, and made it more mellow. Until I get headers, this thing goes back in the box.
I got one of the hard, MDF w/carpet ones about 7 years ago, and I was very disappointed in the lack of noise difference. Last year I got Nitto Invos, and it was much better. I HATE road noise, and until I strip out the carpet, and lay down some effective noise shield material, It'll bug me. Oh, BTW, my car is pretty loud, with many mods, and I can still hear road noise over the motor. Turns out, the best part of using a partition is it keeps things from flying around.

mine makes things too quiet (although stereo sounds better, yes) and makes trunk smaller too (if you care about stuff like that). haven't used it in 4+ years. fits like crap (about 1/4" too tall), paid a bunch, forget what forum vendor though and i never sorted out the headaches of them shipping me a new one. oh well. i bought a matching rear tray too, cracks me up it's a couple of friggin' painted tupperware containers & lids inserted into carpeted foam block for the rear tray (or whatever it's called).
anyway the divider is covered in oem carpet and has z logo and all that jazz. looks sharp, or as sharp as a carpet covered piece of plywood with a chevy logo can be.
my suggestion: spend 10-15 bucks at home depot for a sheet of 1-1/5" insulating foam, and cut out & trim a big piece to fit just right. might take a bit of time, but you'll get the idea. once cut to fit, wedge it in there and drive around for a couple of days. you'll know if you like the noise deadening it or not. if you like it, then order a snazzy one. personally, i like to hear what's going on, it's part of the visceral experience.
I love the noises my Z makes, especially with the supercharger's added symphony. However, tire roar is NOT a great sound, and anything it takes to rid the car of that is welcome. I just found that a partition didn't help very much.
