Not really the power/trq curve is so minimal that its not worth it. The reason that long tubes work so well is that the longer exhaust tubing helps in scavenging, meaning creating a vacuum and sucking all the dirty exhaust out of your cylinders. Shorty headers do not have as much scavenging effect and there fore most people stay with manifolds until they can afford long tube headers.
Will you see gains not enough to warrant the money spent.
I have read the same information on shorty headers in a lot of Performance magazines and have seen dyno pulls showing only a 5-10hp gain at the most. It's recommended by all who have written or tested LS1's to go for Long Tubes to get the best gains for the money spent.
Long Tubes = 25 hp
Shorty's = 5-10 hp
The above numbers are simply my recollection only and I don't have a dyno to prove it.
BUT the only thing to get from this post is....save your money for new Long Tubes.....or purchase used Long Tubes for sale.
You'll short change yourself by getting shorties.
I understand the desire to get results quickly....but do have patience and get the results you really are after.
I would like to see actual dyno results. My tuner said they were not much better than stock manifolds which arn't that bad really. Has any one here seen any real gains?
