Default Polish Z06 wheels

I bought a yellow 03 in November. The former owner had powder coated the wheels black. I was wondering if anyone has striped and polished their Z06 wheels? The black wheels do nothing for me. The car was a good deal , so I got it planning on getting new wheels or making the originals shiny. How much heavier are the aftermarket wheels?

If they're stock, they are lighter than pretty much any other wheel out there without spending a fortune. I would just try to have them re-powdercoated in a comp grey or something closer to the stock finish. That shouldn't cost too much.

Man too bad you weren't in socal, i'd trade you my wheels for yours. Mine are painted black right now but would be super easy to strip back down to the gunmetal. I really want to powdercoat them but just haven't felt the desire to actually go through with it.

If the wheels didn't have tires, ready to be worked, a polish shop would charge $600-$750 for polished faces and lips (not the inner barrels).

I was quoted $1400 to polish or to chrome the wheels here in Canada. I know i can pick up new wheels in the US for about half the money. Does anyone know how much heavier the aftermarket wheels are? It would be nice to have my black wheels around for spares.

Just started this project myself. I had my 04 Ardent gray ZO6 wheels chemically stripped and after some surface prep, they'll be shipped off to my polisher for a finish of my choice. Outer face and the barrels. They will be brighter than the Z16 wheel and I'm undecided on how the final finish will be protected.

Sorry, I can't help you with the weight differences between ZO6 and aftermarket.

I found this morning that the 02 to 04 wheels do not polish well sometimes. They have pinholes in the castings. They are made by speedline. The 01 wheels are alcola wheels. They polish well. I guess i will end up buying new aftermarket wheels and keep old ones for spares

If your not tracking the car dont get caught up in the weight of your wheels . there are a lot of nice aftermarket wheels out there that will make a big difference in the look of your car. if your in love with the stock z06 wheels get some 04 z16 comm. edition wheels they are polished

You're wrong.

02-04 wheels polish up just as good as the '01 wheels... I've done a set personally. Looks like chrome (better han the '04 Z16) if done correctly.

Joshua....... Did you send your wheels out or did you do them yourself. If so about how long did it take?

I did them... as you can see by a glimpse of my avatar I'm pretty good with metal. I don't advise doing the work yourself. It's beyond comprehension how much effort goes into it.

Here's a link to genuine factory wheels that are chrome plated on exchange at a good price. http://www.westcoastcorvette.com/p-2...01-04-z06.aspx

Default Chrome Z06 wheel exchange

I'm like you, just can't warm up to Black wheels. Haven't seen any on any vehicle that I like.

I know of a vendor in the Chicago area that does the chrome exchange of factory wheels for I believe $898. They send you newly chromed and you return your old for cores. Like for Like. Seems like a pretty good deal! PM me if you want the info.

Does anyone know of anyone who does the same sort of thing only with polished wheels? I prefer the polished wheels to chrome personally. I would be interested in doing mine for spares, I have a set of MHT Chrome forged wheels coming tomorrow!!!

I have Fikse( profil 5s-18" all around) on my 03Z but would also like to polish my stock wheels, FIKSE are lighter and 3-piece.

I'm leaning more toward polished aluminum wheels than chrome. I have not found any place that exchange for polished. There are not many places that sell polished aftermarket wheels.

I can do them for about $200 per wheel and it will look identical to chrome. Stunning.

I'm on an iPhone now, but I can post a pic tomorrow if interested of a previous set of wheels I stripped, sanded, sanded, sanded, then polished. They aren't Zo6 wheels but they show the final results.

to strip the powder coated off the wheels you can use a mr gasket remover..and it works like a charm..then take some sand paper and have at it!

I would like to see the pictures of your wheels. Your engine photo looked awsome. (what happened to it, it disappeared?)
