My neighbor let me borrow a Chicago Electric battery charger to top off two dead batteries I had. I has the 10a quick charge and 2 a trickle charger. I think I heard trickle is generally better, but on either setting after a few minutes the charger makes a loud buzz. I just want to check nothing is getting ready to blow up or burnt out on me. Is that audible hum normal? The gauge on the charger has it about 60% and I know not to over charge.
I have two Ctek 3300's I use to maintain my car's batteries, and pretty much all other 12 volt job's around the house. No drama or buzzing whatsoever. These are a bit more money, but guess you get what you get you pay for.
Be careful - you want an "Automatic" charger that will shut down when fully charged, some old ones & cheep ones are NOT automatic, and they may NOT mention it on the unit, BUT ALL automatic ones Say Automatic on it ...
My Everstart 2/15/100 automatic make a loud buzz on 100 if I need to quickly start something - not recommended, but it will start a car's stone dead in about 30 seconds, provided the battery isn't beyond use ... 100 is not recommended - maybe for emergency only... slower the better
