I thought it would be really cool to hear some reasons why people chose a Corvette over all the other cars out there. Vette owners range from 18-80 so lets hear your story, I guess I'll go first......
I am 35 and when I was a kid I had an uncle with a 66 big block Vette. He would come over for family gatherings and when he would roll down the street, everyone knew it was him. I will never forget the sound that his car made. I decided then, that someday I was going to have my own Vette. I started my Vette fund when I was 18 and at 31, I had 26k saved up and it was time to find my car! My wife wanted me to save the money for the kids college fund, I told her she was out of her mind! The great thing was I found an 01 yellow vert with 20k. I got it for 23k and what did I do with the left over money.........I started the MODS!!!!
I love Corvettes because they scream "AMERICAN"! I feel pride every time I sit in that seat, that this car was built by hard working Americans, They are the true 'American Sports Car".........
Also to add, my wife has asked me what I'm going to do when my 2 boys want to go for a ride, I laugh inside because I have already started another Vette fund to buy a second one so that both of my boys will have there own Vettes someday after I'm gone............
And always wanted a sports car, well a real performing sports car and an American made one at that -
Thus the Corvette and the dream became a reality, after playing around in a C4 for a while I got smart and jumped into a C5 and all my dreams became a reality -
A Supercharged Fuel Efficient Sports Car all wrapped in a C5, looks and performace as well as Air Conditioning- whats not to love
Well actually I had always like Corvette's from the first day I started to notice cars. That would be around 1962. I was 16 years old and was able to get my license. Well a few years later (1966) I went in the Navy. My parents moved from Chicago to Florida in 1968 where my father and uncle opened a Chevron service station. A customer had a 1966 big block roadster he wanted to get rid of, so my father bought it. When I came home for the first time on leave the Vette was in the garage and my father said if I wanted it I just needed to make the payment of $115.00 a month (boy those were the days). So that is how I got interested in Corvettes. So I have had a C2, C3, C4 and now my C5. Most likely I will have a C6, but I do not believe a C1 is in my future.
On wish list, Corvette Z06 was waaaay down the list.
When it came time to replace an older machine, I simply went with the best bang for the buck. Speedy, powerful, bullet proof, and good gas mileage. A used Z beat anything else out there in the price range.
Only now am I convinced on the choice as my daily driver. SOLD!
As an only child my older cousins had a big impact. One had a 62 and the other a 65....then in high school 2 schoolmates had vettes a 58 and a 61....so at 18 my first, a 64, of 4 Vettes so far was purchased. The other main reason is that it's such a cool looking car
I was 35 at the time and I was actually looking for a Termi Cobra. I was a die hard Mustang fan for years. Then a friend of mine, who was going to be stationed in Germany was looking to sell his Corvette. 2002 C5 with 28K miles on it. He was asking 25K for it and I offered him 20K cash. I thought he would never bite but he did. Sine then I have not looked back. I have had other Mustangs for DD but the power and looks of the Corvette are intoxicating to say the least.
She now has 115K miles on the clock since I bought her 4 years ago and I will not go back to anything other than Corvette. My next acquirement after my Masters degree will be a C5Z.
I've owned 6 Corvettes, My favorite was a 1993 40th Anniversary ZR-1. But I now enjoy my 2003 Z06 with a head and cam package just as much. I chose Corvette because it's just plain fun to drive. And it's made in America too.
I guess I was about 9 yrs old and a friend of the families husband had a 69 convertible, white w/ saddle interior and top - - one ride and I was hooked for life!!!
Because for right around 20 grand I get to ride around in a friggen rocketship. Didn't even have to go spaceman school.
So true.
Long story...
Three and a half years ago my wife wanted to buy a sports car. She always wanted a Miata. We went and drove one. I'm 6'2" an I just couldn't get comfortable. A Vette was not even on our list of possibilities. We drove the Solistice & Sky but they were also too cramped. My right knee was rubbing between the steering wheel and the center console. We drove a nissan 350 which was much better but I wasn't convinced that a Nissan was what I wanted. I had a Nissan 240 back in the day (which I loved). I've had several Nissans since then and I really like them. I have an Altima as a DD now and I think Nissans are great cars but the 350 just didn't do it for me for some reason. Anyway, we had another problem. Our driveway had a big hill to navigate and no sports car was going to navigate the hill without problems. We had a Honda Civic at the time that bottomed out every time we came and left. I tried to talk the wife into a Mustang GT but she put her foot down and let me know in no certain terms that the Mustang was NOT a sports car.
Fast forward 2.5 years... We have the bulldozer guy out for $3k and have the front of our property seriously redesigned and that included fixing and repaving the driveway. A couple months later the subject of a sports car came up again. I started looking again and all I could think about was how small the sports cars were that we had been looking at. Well I decided to start looking at a used Vettes and found that the used ones were very reasonably priced. The rest is history. We both love the 09 Vert.
In the early sixties a solid axle car pulled up next to my parent's sedan at a stop light. I looked over at the side coves and thought, COOL!. Then my cousin was dating a guy with a '62 fuelie, after I heard that fuelie motor, I was sold. He followed it with a '67 coupe, my first Corvette ride was in this coupe. Looking out the windshield at the fender peeks was an experience difficult to explain in a family forum. I followed this with my own '67 Marina Blue BB roadster in '73 at age 23. That one is still in my garage with my '99 Nassau Blue FRC. Corvette power is in my blood!
