Default looking at a car next week

i found an ad for a nice looking 1998 coupe with 139k miles. its red, black int., auto trans, has 18" & 19" Z06 chrome rims. interior is in great shape, no cracking seats or dash, and there are very few chips on the exterior. it also has the C5R lights in front replacing the flip up lights.

its an extremely clean car for being 13 years old. they are asking 12,995 for it. what do you guys think? i was looking at spending 25K on a newer model, but with the price being so low, i can afford to start modding it right away, as opposed to buying a newer can and having to wait a while to afford the fun stuff.

anything special to be aware of in the 1998 base coupe?

thanks gentlemen

frank

I wouldn't mind seeing you get it inspected at a dealer or shop...they can look it over from head to toe, pull any codes...etc for a small price. Overall..if itz been serviced regularly..it should be fine.

Personally I don't think I would pay $13K for a car with that many miles. For a few $$$s more, you can find one with a lot less miles IMO.

Default allot of miles

Think you would be much better off being patient and finding one with less miles. In most cases I feel you will put less money into maintaining a well cared for car with low miles. Good luck with your search

You can do a lot with your original budget of $25k in today's market. If you want to mod it, get a newer low milage one for 15 to 18 and let the mods begin. Another option is to look for a C6 (did I really say that?).

too much for that old and that many miles.

That is too much money for a car with that many miles. You could find a car with way less miles than that for that kind of money.

Where are those like me able to look to locate cars in this price range? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

you can jump on auto trader or carmax and expand your search to nearby cities within a few hours drive. i would think a cherry vette would be worth the drive.

there is also this craigslist add on called crazedlist, it lets you check all nearby cities also, its simple to set up and has worked brilliantly for me for a year or so...here is the link...http://www.crazedlist.org/#

but mostly i would say just BE PATIENT....truly, patience is your best friend right now, good luck

peace!

Thank you for the advice and information. I am planning on taking my time. I have not even gone to see any cars in person yet. Just window shopping through the internet. Thanks again for the heads up!

go drive some now especially overpriced or real low mileage or real high mileage.

then when you are seriously looking you will have a yardstick to measure by.

Nows the time to buy. When spring comes sellers will be more firm with there prices since more people will be looking to buy with spring fever on the brain, also people need cash after the holidays, so don't be surprised at what some people will come down to if you have cash in hand. good luck

Even though I have a '98 too - it's the miles !

I have 94,000 miles on mine but in theory only! Everything is new and updated so really just the body has the actual miles

If you get it you would want to do the tranny and eventually the motor and it would still be cheaper to get a newer on with less miles on it and more than likely one that has been modded slightly

Keep us informed on what you do - and if you do get it, feel free to contact me about the '98's anytime I have pretty much done everything to our year

Thanks,Matt
