Default Engine side hood pad options?

Hey Enthusiasts.... question for you.

The hood pad (that is the pad between the hood's underside and engine) I presume is there for noise abatement and heat insulation.. is there any other purpose?

I find all it does is collect dirt and dust and consequently has to be cleaned to keep the engine bay nice. Are there any alternatives to having this pad other than purchasing a different hood? Maybe it can be removed all together... don't know.

Thanks...

Close Note: I apologize in advance, I don't know the correct term for this part and feel free to correct me on this.

I read somewhere it is there for fire protection, I guess it falls off and smothers the fire.

A lot of owners paint the logo as a point of pride.

I just ordered a new insulator from Car Motorsports. Ck out their website and the many options with the pictures. Takes about two weeks.....I read somewhere that on the older model cars {before fuel injection} the insulators would keep down the risk of fire and damage when cars would backfire thru the carbs ......

When I had a Motor City Mold hood on my car, there was no provisions on the hood for mounting the insulating blanket, so I ran the hood without one for over 6 years. No problems at all.

With the stock hood though, you will have holes drilled into the hood where the retaining plugs go. That might be a distraction when looking at the hood, but I'm not aware of any other reason that you can't just take the blanket off if you want, unless it is truly there for a fire supression thing.

I had some local airbrush artist copy one from this forum. She did a great job. Can't remember who's it was. Post yours if you have a pic.

It's called a hood insulation pad. It was designed to help keep down the engine noise from the passenger compartment. Strange because most of us like to hear the engine, especially when accelerating. I truly doubt if it has any fire resistance ability.

Indeed, I have done this,

But to get it as clean as shown, it can be a pain.

Had mine airbrushed as well. Had him use the car color for the red flag. I am happy with it.

Can't offer anything without the liner though.
