Painting Plastic Engine Covers/Parts
Hello all, I looked on the search and found a couple of good threads on painting the fuel rail covers and other engine compartment plastic which sounds pretty straight forward. Sounds like some sand the parts and others use a cleaner and adhesion promoter. Was wondering what others have done, what types of paint I should (rattle can) look for- base or prime and clear, heat resistant necessary or not, and where you got the products you used. Also someone noted materials be flexible - not sure where to get that stuff. Am planning on painting the fuel rail covers and the air box other parts- torch red. Thanks in advance for any help.

I painted my FRC's with torch red dupli color spray cans. I used their gray primer and clear coat plus the torch red. The color was right on. Been on a year now with no problems. Thinking about the coolant tank and WS washer tank next. Wet sanded, washed them off with dish soap and rinsed very well and primed a couple of coats. Sanded the primer smooth and sprayed 3 coats of Torch Red and wet sanded in between each coat. Clear coat really made it look good. I will put some pictures up when I get home Sunday night for you.

I sanded mine down, primered them and painted them with VHT. All from a rattle can. They came out looking great. Just use light coats to paint them.

I've got a number of Word files that I created from posts here on the forum about painting the underhood components. If you'd like a copy, PM me your e-mail address.

I used Hi-Temp VHT engine paint on mine!
Light sanding and a very good washing with warm soap and water, touch up any areas with some more light sanding wash and dry!
Then I just used the paint itself and then used a Hi-Temp VHT Clear coat on top!
Thanks,Matt

I painted mine 3 years ago and still loks like it was done yesterday. The most important thing to remeber is to be patient. Trust me. It will pay big dividends down the road.
