No, I don't think so being we own 3 Corvette's already. One more wouldn't of made a difference to her. She wanted a Camaro. She had no interest in anything else.

I totally agree, talk with a lawyer, But all in all this will fall back on the dealership, maybe the previous owner and his buddy are trying to pull some kind of scam. But talk to a lawyer ASAP, hope this all works out for the best, Good luck and keep us updated.

Ours was a SCAM, the salesman has been fired, original bank involved, previous owner ID'd-possible involved, original insurance company involved, LE involved.

But this did not stop the vehicle from being towed out the drive way in the middle of the night. Being told by the original bank/lien holder, sorry the insurance paid off, the insurance company saying sorry can't sell it to you-conflict of interest, LE saying sorry-civil matter, court saying - sorry crime was committed - file criminal action, LE passed it on to next jurisdiction, who said sorry and gave it back.

Be a year soon, no one arrested, no apologies from dealer, no refund of "payments" made to bank or insurance company. The next step will be initiated this week.................If all goes well, this will be the toe stepper. My signature tells all.

This can become a long drawn out legal process. If the friend misrepresented himself has the owner then there will be criminal charges brought against him. I would advise you to check you state laws and I would hire legal counsel. People who say possession is 9/10th of the law are not correct. Again this is not a black and white!!! Think about it before you listen to people who have not education on this matter.
This is the best advice. I & the many who said to lawyer up are correct. Thats why we have lawyers, to sort out these types of situations. Dont be a fool and dont have your heart set on any particular C5. There are dozens to chose from without the drama to go with them. Get your paperwork, your lawyer and the car and bring it back asap!!!

this is where I am today, I have contacted a lawyer and our next step is to contact the dealer and aquire the titlework from when they took possesion of the vehicle. If all is in order I am good. If for any reason the dealership balks, My attorney start writing letters. He did tell me at this point that I made a bona fide purchase and will be able to get my money back from the dealer, but everything that I have shows me as the legal owner. My choice when asked was to return the vehicle and get my money back. so thats where we are today, waiting for a return call from the dealer. thanks, Ill keep up to date

I have a few posts here on this issue, but here is what I am a little surprised about, you said that the police contacted you on this but once you showed them all of the paper work they left. I am sure they contacted the dealer as well as the owner that is claiming it was stolen. It would seem to me if they were still pursuing it as a stolen vehicle, they would have been back to see you and impound the car.
I am going back to my original feeling, is that the owner is trying to pull a scam.
I will keep following this to see what the outcome is.

That is why I said to sit tight on this being Matt was already contacted by a detective awhile back and hasn't been since. The detective even told him he might not hear back from him if I remember correctly. If that was the case I am sure the PD was satisfied that the car was not stolen. Remember once again all Title paperwork went through the DMV already. He has insurance already on the car. I would think both the DMV and Insurance Company would be contacted or anyone involved already if the car was actually stolen. Ok now Matt has contacted a lawyer but he will probably run up a good bill with that lawyer in the mean time if hours and many letters will have to be sent out that Matt will have to eat the cost on. Lawyers get around $225 an hour where I live. It doesn't take long to run up a couple of thousand dollar bill and maybe end up with the same result anyway. That is why I would of just sat tight and let law enforcement contact me as I am sure if it were stolen they would go straight to the dealer involved first and then Matt would be contacted to do what ever was needed to be done not spending a dime more of his own good money and if it had to go back to the dealer get all of his money back in the process. I think he jumped the gun here in contacting a lawyer based on what we all know already. Time will tell.

The lawyer is doing the consult for free, The dealer is cooperating with any requests for the paperwork on the aquisition of the vehicle and they have been trying to contact the detective with no luck since the detective's initial call to the dealership. So, as we sit the attorney has said to sit and wait, all the paperwork is in order, there has been no contact back with me since the original call on the 26th of January, and my trip to the secretary of state shows all things in order. There are alot of C5's out there, I know I've been looking for a year, I was happy to finally find this one here in MI, so I wouldn't have to spend all kinds of money travelling to buy a car then ship it. In my wallet all this makes a reasonable price on a car very expensive. It is a beautiful vehicle and has the things she wants, and 43k. I would really like to keep it but, if need be I will follow up with the attorney and be sure my interests are protected. I certainly have learned from all the fine respones here, and everyone of them I appreciate, that this is one very special type of car, and the type of responses that I've gotten, and support, tell me that my wife and I are in with the right kind of people. Thank You

resolved! Case closed. this ended up being a dad who bought a new vette, gave old vette to son, who sold it to a buddy for not enough money and the buddy quickly sold the car and made a quick profit, so it seems, and the son wasn't supposed to sell the car to anybody without dad knowing. Everything else on my side of the purchase was done properly and the detective relayed that this was a family dispute and has nothing to do with the car anymore. Thanks to all, this was quite a learning experience for me and I hope this may help someone else.

Glad to see this thing has worked out for you.

For us, it has been passed on to higher LE, which in turn has started an investigation. Keeping our fingers crossed..................XXXXXXX

If the car was stolen and the insurance company paid off the claim they will end up being the owner of the car the selling dealer should have to return your money to you. The dealer should be bonded and you could get your money from his bond if he has no money good luck.
