I need to go get some hockey pucks. I keep forgetting to do that. Been using a piece of woo for the front area, but that's not so possible on the back side areas.
I use a pressure treated 2X6 (they are harder) under my rear support. Even with my low profile jack, I need to jack up one side of the car with a second floor jack and a jacking puck to get the jack under the rear.
A 2X6 is very close to width of support, you need to check it before jacking up.
BTW, jacking rear up higher only drains 4 ounces more oil, but I do it anyway.
I use a low profile but to get the clarence drive the car onto some 2x10 s . For the cross member I use 2x6 about 21 inchs long with 2x6 blocks where the jackstands sit.

Here's what I use - a low profile floor jack and I had an 8"x8" piece of 1/4" steel cut. No worries about wood splitting and it is big enough to cover the entire width of the crossmember.
Are you sure 8" is wide enough to provide support under the 2 lift points as shown in the diagram DeeGee posted (#3)? I thought those 2 lift points are wider apart than 8". I use a 2x10 about 20" long, and it's wide enough to support the crossmember under the 2 lift points.
