hey all, hows it going? name is matt, and im 25. im looking to go purchase a torch red 01 z06 tomorrow with 28,xxx miles on it from a local dealer. They are asking $18,500 for it, car history comes back with no issues.
Is there anything particular I need to look out for when looking this thing over? Price seems pretty reasonable. My dad has an 02 EB z06 w/ 9k miles and I love the hell out of that car. I realize some things were different on an 01, but most of what I've read won't remain stock anyways over time.
Look the car over carefully. Make sure it looks like a 28000 mile car. Check the rubber around the windows and trunk lid for any evidence of paint overspray. Also check in the engine compartment. Check the doorjambs for the same and for indications of sanding scratches in the paint. Look at the bottom of the rocker panels for cracks or other damage. Check the color and clarity of the clutch fluid. Find out if the coolant has been changed. Check the date code on the tires. If they are originals they need to be replaced. If everything looks good and the car appears to have been well maintained, then go for it.
Matt, best of luck to you! I looked for 5 months before i bought my Z06 last march. I try to drive the car daily and love every minute of driving the beast!
well, shouldve known better. car had more like 75k worth of wear and tear. i passed. id rather spend more on the right one. ima hold off for a bit but ill keep in touch bc eventually ill be a regular on here!

thanks guys.
Sounds like you made a smart decision. However, you should be a "regular" here now, rather than later. You should spend a lot of time reading the C5 Z06, General, and Tech section, as if you sort through the overly abundant ads, you can get a real feel on the issues these cars face.
Another section you should be really watching is the C5 for sale section. Buying from a fellow enthusiast has a lot of benefits. Plus, you can search on, and read their posts, that way you can get a more accurate picture of how the car was driven, cared for, and any problems it might have had. You are less likely to be "surprised" that way.

good point. ill stick around and post more often, thanks!
18.5k from a dealer for a low mile z06...I figured something wasn't gonna add up.
Like the guy said above, spend your time on here reading around and searching to learn more about the cars. I'm still waiting to pick up my Z06 in the middle of March, but spend plenty of time reading about things I want to address to stay ahead.
